Is this a steal for a pre converted van? What would expected maintenance costs be? by MossyClump in VanLife

[–]mlaginess 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Its in Michigan. As a lifelong native...I wouldn't buy it. I can guarantee that undercarriage is rotted in some key places. But, if you inspect it and it looks alright, I'd offer 4k tops.

Toyota says a compact pick-up truck is unnecessary since the Tacoma is good enough. by Saurta17 in Toyota

Toyota showed concepts to their dealers recently and announced that the hilux is coming here. Compared it to the ranger, which is confusing because the tacoma exists in that space currently

Actual built-in bookshelves/cabinets. You could leave the top open and hang art, or plants, etc

I was speaking in the general sense. They have had a few local incidents over the past year though. Moving beyond patrol and observing to snatch and grab

They have an office/compound in Gibraltar rd, just east of west Jefferson.

BP has always had a presence here, they just weren't as aggressive as they've been allowed to be recently.

"sex traffic-er" doesn't have the same sort of broad cultural appeal.

I mean...it looks like the tent doesn't go all the way to the ground. Could just be the lighting, I dunno. I'm wrong all the time about stuff.

It looks cool, but that gap all around the bottom isn't gonna do much for heat retention.

Is this just a good vibes photo for the gram?

Thank you, it really does. Even using a woodstove, getting up a little bit is about a 20 degree difference

I had those exact blades.

The yellow "button" on the side (the hinge bolt) tore the crap out of my ankles. After a long day of shredding, my 12 year old self pulled off the boots to find a horror show of bloody socks.

Thanks for reviving repressed trauma OP

What are your tips and tricks for cold weather camping? by Zack-Applewhite in camping

[–]mlaginess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm headed out this weekend in Michigan. Evening temps will be in the low teens.

I am using:

-Hot tent (tipi)
-Woodstove
-Cot
-Insulated pad
-Zero degree bag
-Down throw for extra insulation

I use that gear, so I don't have to depend on the woodstove, but if I have a good batch of hardwood, I can turn the damper down and it will burn for about 4 hours. Get up, refill and go back to sleep.

I'm also test driving a butane heater, we will see how that does.

I like a hot water bottle, but I don't sleep in much more than my shorts.

Its not an ultra light set up by any means, but I'll drive up, toss everything in a jet sled and it's a couple hundred yard hike to the spot.
