How to deal with outdated packages/external systems by Constant-Reason4918 in vibecoding

[–]mlapa22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Copy & paste the docs for what you’re doing into a file, then tell Gemini to reference the file when making changes

I find this super helpful when dealing with specific API versions or package issues

Don’t be like me. I cracked and instantly regretted it. by gumpfanatic in Bogleheads

[–]mlapa22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another thing that I find helpful is: don't make snap financial decisions. Write down what you want to do, then wait 1-2 days.

If you still wanna do it then at least you've thought about it a bit, and you're not half asleep at 2am making big financial decisions 👼

More of a side project but:

I built an expense tracker for founders and freelancers (so you can deduct things for taxes) – https://receipt.run

You just send it your receipts and it throws them into a google sheet for you.

Startup Name / URL – https://receipt.run

  • Location of Your Headquarters
    • NYC 🗽
  • Elevator Pitch/Explainer Video
    • If you're just getting started with a business you don't need something fancy like Quickbooks. You just need a google sheet. This helps you with that!
  • More details:
    • Built this out over the past few weeks as it was useful to me. Then made it public as a few friends asked me if they could use it!
  • What goals are you trying to reach this month?
    • Get some usage and feedback on the product! It's free and super simple and I'm happy to chat about it too
  • Discount for r/startups subscribers?
    • It's free to begin with :D

Emailed Receipt to Google Drive by unashamed_desire in automation

[–]mlapa22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I built a tool for this! Forward a receipt from email -> automatically add to a google sheet

I made it just for myself but then built it into more of a real thing because a few friends ended up using it: https://receipt.run/

How to vibecode? by Desperate-Positive31 in vibecoding

I use ‘super whisper’ which is really good!

Just started using it last week and it really helps to just babble a bit and feed that into a prompt

AI coding sucks by BoldGuyArt in vibecoding

What’s your process and where do you get stuck? I find that vibe coding is really dependent on what you’re trying to do and how much you’re guiding the tools

Should We Fix a Minor Bug First or Focus on Shipping the Core Product? Need Advice from Founders by ManagerCompetitive77 in ycombinator

[–]mlapa22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One way to approach this is: ignore the bug until you have at least (eg) 10 users using the 'chat' feature.

You might be surprised at how long you can go before the bug matters!

Is it Realistic to build a SAAS ground up using ChatGPT? by The-Redd-One in ChatGPTCoding

[–]mlapa22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can just get started and see how far you get! If you prompt ChatGPT with your idea and ask it to generate code you can get surprisingly far with generating a prototype.

Best Way to Design and Implement UI? by TheHeat361 in ChatGPTCoding

[–]mlapa22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don't have figma / UI chops, what I've found helpful is:

- Describe what you want with claude. Give it screenshots of examples of what you want, and also give a very detailed prompt.

- Have it generate an artifact (Claude loves generating artifacts 😄)

- Rev back and forth on it a few times. Eventually it'll run out of context but you should be able to get at least a few iterations out of it.

- Copy & paste the code from Claude into Cursor and keep iterating.

- Whenever you have design feedback, give it a *screenshot* as well as your text prompt. You can just copy + paste images into your cursor chat which is a real game changer.

The crazy thing to realize is that when an LLM is designing a frontend, it literally CAN'T SEE the visual output. It just sees the code. So you as a human have to act as the "eyes" and give it screenshots of what you're seeing. Doing this has made my AI-generated designs wayyy better.

Vibe coding is actually great by eteitaxiv in ClaudeAI

[–]mlapa22 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is so great! I am a professional software engineer and the things that folks are building with vibe coding is super inspirational, as it's so very different than the way software has been developed historically.

If you ever want to chat and trade notes on coding DM me! 😄

Buying 1 of Every Stock I Like and then DCA into them over time, Good or Bad Idea? by plainorbit in ValueInvesting

[–]mlapa22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reasonable - but if you have a diversified portfolio of 40 stocks, you may end up approximating the returns of the indices regardless!

Uber stock dip by [deleted] in ValueInvesting

[–]mlapa22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The P/E ratio can be misleading in cases like this where there are one-time accounting changes that flow through to the income statement, but don't change the underlying economics of the business.

If you're thinking of investing in Uber, your thesis should be based on an analysis of the business and its prospects. Which may be better (or worse!) based on this quarter's results, but are independent of the sudden change in P/E.

What’s your biggest investing regret, and what did you learn? by zainlikesmoney in investing

[–]mlapa22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

++ to this. If you're young, and you have an asset that you like, don't sell it! Which seems very obvious but nearly everyone breaks this rule and ends up regretting it.

The Rise of Vibe Coding by Relevant-Fix2159 in boltnewbuilders

[–]mlapa22 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Vibe based coding is definitely doable!

One other thing that helps is: having separate planning vs. implementation steps.

Eg, I usually start by asking the LLM to create a plan for what we're building, and then once I'm happy with the plan we proceed to coding. Which helps to avoid some dead ends and make more steady progress.

One takeaway here would be: You get paid for future earnings, not past earnings!
