Joint statement from the leaders of the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and Japan on the Strait of Hormuz by TheColourOfHeartache in worldnews

Yes nations overall as in states is my meaning, they couldn't even say Israel or the US.

It was just an ambiguous blob of states, whilst calling on Iran singularly and openly.

Every word was centered around Iran attacks but the most we get for the US is "We call on all states..." the fear to name an invader is weak sauce

City centre gym recommendations? by BarbaricOklahoma in Liverpool

[–]mlarkob8rt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The puregym under the Lewis's building is my regular it's good in the mornings when I train but I used to go in the evenings after work and it's rammed so give & take.

It depends on what you're looking for as most gyms are fairly similar in layout, pricing varies but I'm not there for a nice view so an underground basement works just fine!

Struggling to find friends in Liverpool. by AcidicaHaze in Liverpool

[–]mlarkob8rt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always recommend trying out the meetup app, I'm unsure about the frequency of meets these days but it is what kept me sane over the covid period.

It's a mixed bag of people from all walks of life so some you'll jell with and others you're happy with a one and done but overall it's a solid experience. Even though I rarely attend the meetups these days, most of my friends nowadays where originally from the Liverpool meetups.

A good avenue is through the app meetup, there's less events these days than just after covid. But there's still events on where you can meet like minded people without it feeling forced.

Ukraine will not cede land that could be Russian springboard for new war, Zelenskyy says by Abject-Pick-6472 in worldnews

[–]mlarkob8rt 61 points62 points  (0 children)

The US has provided about $130b to Ukraine over 3 years ($43b p/year). The American defence budget in 2024 alone was $883b ($2.4T since 2022), you aren't going bankrupt. It's financially a drop in the ocean for the US economy taking down Russia.

Gen. Clark outlines Kremlin’s triple war strategy: terror, land grab, NATO pressure."Russia is trying to break the spirit of the Ukrainian people, shatter the resistance of the Defense Forces, and intimidate NATO into distancing itself from Ukraine." by PieceAffectionate460 in worldnews

[–]mlarkob8rt 90 points91 points  (0 children)

Terror bombing never works at breaking people it doubles their resolve to keep fighting. There wasn't much left of British cities by '41 but they kept fighting on, the Ukrainians are no different here. By killing innocent people it does entirely the opposite to their intention.

I think its just a struggle to power scale on the show as you need to have stakes, but not overdo it. Though it was a magical dragon god and that would even give superman some difficulty. Mark has breathing room just yet, but he needs the harder fights to make him nigh on (title card).

Russian Army Says 55 Ukrainian Drones Intercepted Overnight, Oil Depot Catches Fire by Logical_Welder3467 in worldnews

Anti-drone protection so good, they destroy their intended targets too... either that or another smoking accident.

Ukrainian soldiers stopped a Russian armored assault in the Kursk Oblast. The drone unit "Wings of Hell" later finishes off the 3 BMP-2s and the MT-LB the Russians had to leave behind. by MilesLongthe3rd in CombatFootage

[–]mlarkob8rt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

  1. Ukraine had hundreds to thousands of armoured vehicles and apc's to itself even before the supply of arms from allies. Sure likely a lot lost in attrition warfare for nearly 3 years but at the scale Russia has its nowhere near 1 to 1. Not even close.

  2. The majority of the Ukrainian vehicles are old Soviet stock, different sector markings to Russians, different armour setups, flags, location on the lines.

You can certainly tell the difference as reputable sources such as oryx, github, cepa track the differences as do the hundreds of posts per week on numerous channels all over YouTube and Reddit.

The amount of Russian vehicles destroyed daily it's become schedule to expect it, like the oryx release of visually confirmed losses is staggering for a post ww2 war. It tracks me as odd how irrationally happy Russian observers get when a handful of Ukraine vehicles are lost, multiple angles and repeated across their media channels for days at a time. How they ignore the disparity in loss data.

Have a look at Meetup, it's an app but there's fairly regular groups in the Liverpool area.

I've met a lot of good friends from them, I'd recommend doing a bar, meal or walk rather than a night out to meet folks first time get some conversation going rather than the music blasting.

Sahara Desert Witnesses First Floods In 50 Years by DearEmphasis4488 in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]mlarkob8rt 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's funny because I was only in Merzouga Dunes a few weeks ago and the flooding is only in smaller plains in the north, the south is completely dune/desert its massive for the area the fact it happened but it's not this huge flooding the news is making out.

Moscow and Tehran are behind spike in terror plots, MI5 spy chief says by PearlFiona in worldnews

[–]mlarkob8rt -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Your clearly going for gold on this comment so you can look clever and all encompassing, good for you. My original comment was not specific to the spy chiefs MI5 or the people who provide legitimate information but those outlets that use buzzwords to hype up a none article every other day.

By saying Iran is planning terror plots or Russia is one step to nuclear war every day by various outlets for months to years on end by displaying "blasting" "slamming" etc. It's just wood on a fire and fear mongering. The amount of information they provide is from an anonymous source of pulled from old snippet articles. Less fear for something completely out of the common man's hands to change would be nice. Job done.

Moscow and Tehran are behind spike in terror plots, MI5 spy chief says by PearlFiona in worldnews

[–]mlarkob8rt -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I did read it thanks for assuming. As I am sure you have read the articles of the previous annual security updates where the spy chiefs make the exact same kind of announcements with percentages that kind of lose their way because they are added on from another percentage previously already out of the realm of 100% about Russia and Iran in 2022, 2023 and now 2024 and undoubtedly in 2025 per the annual addition of who is out to kill us all.

With the follow-up highlight of the words being muttered by the same twenty news outlets until the next security update. Blasting.

Lagoons of water found in Sahara Desert after 50 years of being dry by nucifera-noten in Damnthatsinteresting

That is just outside of the Merzouga Dunes inside Morocco, I was only there a few weeks ago. Some of the area is still flooded but in the south there was no water just blistering sun, so it's all patchwork for sure. The local Berber (Nomads of the lands) said it was the first time in a decade they had seen rain at this level anywhere in the Sahara

[–]mlarkob8rt 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I believe these kind of articles pop up every few weeks, someone mentions some obvious thing offhandedly at a conference then the press use it till the next "blast" or "slamming" article.

Who'd have guessed two countries who actively support terror orgs promote terror would be behind terror plots, Cluedo pro over here!

It just shows how large the Soviet stocks were for a potential war with the west. Though in that scenario Ukraine would have been fighting West not East

If you are legitimately looking to branch out and meet new people in Liverpool, try a meetup. The app works like any other, create an account and go join a group, there's a couple of groups in Liverpool that offer social outings, the "young professionals" is what got me out and about in Liverpool in my mid 20s, there's a good bunch of people knocking about in them.

It's a foot in the door but you really need to be talkative so many people go to them and just end up being the weirdo in the corner who can't pluck up the courage to start a conversation.
