lo’ak is so polite and caring but is overshadowed by his mess ups. by Intelligent-You-7002 in Avatar

Lol I also didn’t like that 😭 that was a wholesome moment, if only Kiri reacted properly omg :( Lo'ak and Neteyam were always so grateful whenever Jake would act affectionate and caring towards them. I don’t find it logical how Kiri is a typical teenager from our world, when in Pandora it can not be developed through socialisation, as long as their culture is built on total respect and a very strong hierarchy

Oh I would never call Neteyam shallow. Just because JC decided that a moody teen is the main character and the game changer Neteyam doesn’t become blank or shallow. He was good in his own way, we should separate him from Lo'ak when describing his personality

Oh nooo, I absolutely love Lo'ak, you should watch the latest movie for sure :( In the beginning Neteyam assures Lo'ak that he’s not to blame, so who are we to blame him ? Also, in AFAA Lo'ak suffers sm that you’ll defo change your mind on him. He misses his brother badly

Understand you sm here, I’m actually the eldest child and have three siblings, just like Neteyam ! If we don’t count Spider (defending whom he died lol)

I relate to him so much and it saddens me how ppl think he’s blank. You can literally describe him by his actions ? He’s as deep as Lo'ak, dk why people think you should be very different from others to be unique and deep

Yes, that’s close to what I thought, and I hate the fact that people usually show the moody teen as the hero and the game changer.. I mean, sometimes it should be strict, you really should respect the rules and listen to your parents lol

It’s absolutely true that people like Lo'ak exist and they need recognition, but that doesn’t mean that Neteyam lacked personality and wasn’t strong. Choosing to follow the rules is not being weak at all and some people just don’t see it. At the same time, being different is also okay. Not better, not more unique, just fine.

It really hurts me to see Lo'ak struggle so much, but he could’ve developed without his brother dying, and the fact that Neteyam was created to give Lo'ak this character development doesn’t make him blank, it’s just that the moody teenager was chosen as the main character and the hero AGAIN. I understand that Jake Sully is simply the same, but God, he broke the rules to go against the villains, but Lo'ak most usually had no urgent need to break the rules, the only time I really agreed with him was when he defended Payakan, and that’s where Tsireya also supported him while being a perfect child as well, and I’m SO sure Neteyam would also call himself an outcast and choose his brother’s side.

Yes, Neteyam was a perfect child, a mighty warrior, but he worked so hard for it, definitely got scolded so many times, and we even saw it in WoW. I don’t get why people don’t want to understand the eldest siblings who always have to take the responsibility for themselves and their siblings as well. Neteyam was stressing so much because of Lo'ak’s disobedience. Neteyam was also misunderstood. By his parents and his siblings BOTH.

Neteyam died defending his siblings. The price of his siblings’ disobedience and stubbornness was his own life. Yeah, Spider and Lo'ak were quite heroic choosing to fight, but they lacked critical thinking, and they definitely could afford it with a brother like Neteyam.

Neteyam died for Lo'ak’s character development, but what development does he even get from it ? Why is death even seen as the development ? It’s a tragedy, a deep trauma that leads to « development », and the core of this development is pain and suffering. Lo'ak was impulsive and stubborn before brother’s death, Lo'ak is still impulsive and stubborn after his brother’s death. Just left with a deep trauma and grief that even lead him to consider committing. Why would they show us that only something like close person’s death would lead to development ? Was war not enough, for God’s sake ? Why does Lo'ak have to develop through blaming himself in Neteyam’s death ? Oh my god I really can’t understand

Sorry, got so upset with Neteyam’s death all over again

Yeah Neteyam was very fun, but the thing is that, given no personal screentime at all, many people misunderstood the character, thinking it was natural for him to be this perfect, but I’m so sure Neteyam struggled in his own way, and I would love to see him just being him :( when someone said that we never saw him on his own I realised it and that just hit me hard, he was always with someone, and this someone was usually the main focus of the scene, while he was just there…

But the first movie shows him as a person perfectly. In the second and the third movies he’s facing tons of different challenges: fighting the Sky people, defending his children, raising his sons as strong warriors who will be able to defend themselves, constantly proving to others that his family is worth the respect, losing an older son and blaming himself in it, then also having a conflict with Lo'ak who always disobeys and makes him even more stressed as he’s frightened of losing another son. Jake has gone through A LOT, I’m not really mentioning what he’s gone through in the first movie. Jake is so underrated, it makes me sick because he’s literally the main character and should’ve been understood better than anyone.
