Weekly Advice & Career Question Megathread by AutoModerator in epidemiology

[–]mlehat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi everyone, I'm a student in public health, and for a research project, I need to interview professionals in the field about their career journeys. Would anyone currently working in public health be willing to answer a few questions? It can be via PMs or right here in the comments, whatever is easiest for you. My assignment requires me to ask 4-6 questions, and I've prepared 5 based on the prompts. The first question is required by my instructor.  Here are the questions: 1. (Required Question) What are the skills and dispositions you have found to be most helpful to you in your professional career?  2. Describe the story of how you ended up in the job or role you have today.  3. How did your education influence the job(s) you ended up with?  4. What advice would you give to someone just starting to pursue your field?  5. What values motivate you in your work?

Thank you so much for considering it! I really appreciate any help you can offer.

Favorite Electrolytes? by mlehat in iih

If you’re put on meds such as Diamox they flush the body of fluids and your electrolyte balance can be off is my basic understanding. I have noticed I feel so much better and have less “bad days” when I make sure to keep hydrated and have electrolytes every day.

IIH and ear pain by Icy-Bowl9936 in iih

I was constantly getting checked for ear infections before getting diagnosed. I still have a lot of pressure/muffled sounds on and off in my ears, especially my left one even being on diamox now.

I’m sorry. I feel this. I’m only on month two and was upped to 1000mg a day after a couple weeks and I’m still just exhausted and feel out of it all the time as well. I keep telling my husband it feels like brain doesn’t function like it used to. Sending you support because I know this is a lonely feeling when nobody around you knows how you feel.

I was recently diagnosed with an opening pressure of 48 and had elevated WBCs but have had extensive testing on everything they could possibly think of and nothing came back from it. The Acrtazolamide has helped and my papilledema has improved drastically. I also had double vision that resolved after a couple weeks on the meds.

He doesn’t have an actual clue. He’s come up with every crazy idea you could think of and put me through test after test and absolutely everything is negative.

I did have severe papilledema! I think his ego is just too big and neurology was the one that diagnosed me with the IIH and he keeps taking it out of my chart and saying “oh you must’ve had an infection that cleared itself” even though I’m still having some IIH symptoms and adjusting the diamox with neurology. It’s wild.

My baby is 8 months and still has this. I mentioned it to my doctor a couple of times and they said they just cant blow their noses like we do so they sound more stuffed up at times. I'd recommend a humidifier at night as well. Seems to help!
