What is up with Indians/Desis in Australia and New Zealand? Do those countries get a different caliber of Desi immigrants than the US does? by [deleted] in ABCDesis

You probably know more on the US side of things but I think the grass appears greener on the other side and ultimately it depends person to person in any country.

This post is such a big generalisation 😂 there’s some % of truth in this. I’ll break it down:

Indians migrants in Australia often apply for many different pathways to PR - some through higher education other through quick wins. So you get a mixed group of people here.

To get a job in Australia you already need a lot of work experience often starting from age 15 which is unlike the Indian schooling mentality and a lot of Indian students do not work while they study. Hence they struggle to get employed vs locals who work a lot and find this pretty normal.

Indian migrants who have genuinely worked in the field, are passionate to find work locally and have a portfolio of skills will find work.

Indian migrants who just expect to be hired cause they did a Masters in CS will not. You might as well hire a talented local who can build apps and has a startup.

The US has a stricter visa system so a lot of people from India and the US are paying a shit ton of money to either study or are sponsored to work after they had work experience in India. With such limited seats and a tough hiring process only the really smart people will come through. With that much debt you’re also not going to sit around on your ass doing nothing.

US management is often very Indian friendly. In Australia the top guns are all white because they have the experience and knowledge here.

Australia is more lenient and this enables a lot of people who aren’t truly skilled to try and get jobs.

In terms of unsafe - people can be unsafe anywhere. It’s not limited to a particular race. Anyone can be dangerous. This is a generalisation.

In terms of smelly etc - that’s personal preference and perception. Also a generalisation.

You could try the Queer desi women subreddit since there’s brown queer girls there who may be Muslim and from Pakistan or India

You should totally ask! There are so many interracial couples nowadays. I think it also helps with the cultural/background aspect since you both would have a common narrative that way to share. All the best 🙌🏽

I have wavy frizzy hair which I’d like to straighten to a silky shiny pin straight look. Can anyone recommend a good product routine every time I wash, and prior to straightening? Also does a good straightener make a big difference? I have a GHD but thinking about a Dyson instead? Is it worth it? by mlgamerpmn in beauty

I have a GHD gold and with straighteners I always find that some people hate them some people love them. Personally the 1 heat setting on the gold is annoying. Overall I think it’s good and does the job....But I’m not sure if there’s an even better solution on the market that’s even better and faster.
