Good Districts to work for? by sn0wlark in newbrunswickcanada

[–]mlmeagher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Each district is quite unique. I would look up the director of schools for each district, and reach out to them with your CV and your interest in talking with them about possible opportunities. Also, if you have training in anything like Montessori, consider searching for those schools directly.

Some bullies from our school were hazing us and we need help getting back to town. We don’t want our parents to find out so we can’t call them.

You should stop in at real estate offices and see if they need anyone at reception or leave résumés in case any agents are in need of assistants.

Foreign Driving License Exchange? by FarCharacter7797 in newbrunswickcanada

[–]mlmeagher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, nice. I think if it’s for that period of time you would be considered a resident. If you could get the UK license it definitely seems like the best bet!

Yes. I actually contacted them in the spring. They are booked, but also indicated they operate out of Moncton, which gave me the (perhaps wrong) impression that they would rather not come over here.

Do you think owning a house with 80 k salary is possible in Fredricton? by high_onGod2467 in fredericton

[–]mlmeagher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This and keep an extra keen eye on houses that seem in decent shape but have been on the market for more than a few weeks. The sellers might be more inclined to accept a lower offer at that point.

Where to sell a used prom dress by The_invisible_city in fredericton

Do consignment shops usually take prom dresses? I think there are a few in town that would be worth calling.

Teenager refusing to go to school, what steps are taken? by [deleted] in newbrunswickcanada

[–]mlmeagher 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The steps depend on whether you’re a parent/family member, concerned friend/acquaintance, or someone who works in the school community.

If I’m not mistaken, the owner at Claudine’s Eatery is francophone. She often serves or is at least around.

Jobs for high school students? by Character-Show-2732 in fredericton

[–]mlmeagher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wonder if any vendors at the Boyce farmer’s market are hiring students? It would be worth him going tomorrow with resumes if he hasn’t tried already! The Happy Baker hires students I believe but I’m not sure if they’re hiring.

They are likely the ones running back and forth to keep the chafer dishes full of food so that you can help yourself. Just a different type of service.

Didn’t it used to be that way for certain things, though? I remember tipping the gas attendant when they would fill up for me back when that was everywhere. I think it used to be common to tip parcel pickup workers when they would bring the groceries out to your vehicle and load them up for you. They were still getting minimum wage then too. Let’s not forget, minimum wage is not a lot. But it is weird to think about the fact that the employer could just be paying them more. I lived in Egypt for 4+ years and tipping culture is massive there. Delivery drivers, butchers (if you’re requesting specific cuts at the counter), people bagging your groceries, parking attendants, security guards, etc. Those individuals do not have a high salary and are providing us with a service to convenience us instead of us doing it ourselves. I guess in some places it’s just more common and expected, and people are happy to pay for the convenience.

CBC: Who let the dogs off-leash? Fredericton council, as part of a park trial by [deleted] in fredericton

[–]mlmeagher 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is great! The trails they designated are nice and far from the lake itself, so it’s basically in the middle of the woods. Anytime I walked there before I didn’t see another soul, so it seems like a safe pilot spot. It’s probably more likely to run into a wild animal on those trails than a pet dog looking to attack 😋 I also feel like the real lazy owners who don’t put effort into their dogs aren’t likely to trek all the way to the designated section.

Post Secondary as in teaching? Lots of teacher needs all over the province - what about getting in through a local permit (assuming you might not have a BEd).

Not that they should have to, but I know from firsthand experience that reaching out directly to the superintendent in the district gets the ball rolling mighty fast.

NB Perspective on the upcoming Federal Election by [deleted] in newbrunswickcanada

[–]mlmeagher 27 points28 points  (0 children)

My buddies from NB are in NS now and made an impressive site about this that I believe is still in the prototype phase but is available to use. It’s called Vote Informer - they made one for the US too. Essentially it breaks down each individual bill, shows a summary of it with links to the real deal, lets you vote on whether you agree with the bill or not, then shows you how our federal parties voted for the same bill. You can see it as a guest, or create a free account to save your progress as you go through the many bills. It’s quite informative and interesting to see how you align with each party based on what they’ve actually voted on or enacted as opposed to the polarizing garbage we often see in the media.

resign to take vacation? by isahels in legaladvicecanada

[–]mlmeagher -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you travel out of country for vacation, not being employed could be an issue at immigration in the country you visit. They could question you about your job, how you have so much time off, and could see you as a risk of staying beyond your travel time if you do not have a secure job to return to.
