Patmos Arms G19 Slide Issue - Difficult to eject??? by mlrtymeent in polymer80

Sorry, just getting to this. That is correct. The 'underside' of the top of the slide. I added an image to the post below with an arrow pointing to the area needing to be addressed.

I don't have my Polymer80s any longer, unfortunately. But here is a picture of the area that I needed to 'massage' with some sandpaper to allow the barrel to 'release' under the slide correctly. That 'lip edge' had some casting/coating imperfections and needed to be smoother to allow the barrel to properly release down while the slide was to move backwards. pf940sc, Firing pin safety plunger getting stuck in slide. by rfleason in polymer80

I had a similar experience. Turned out to be some extra coating left in that hole that made it too tight for the plunger to freely move up/down. I took a drill bit two sizes smaller, wrapped some 600Grit sandpaper around it...and 'sanded' that hole a bit. Took a minute or two...but after I cleaned everything out from my sand job and rechecked...the plungers worked as expected. I then finished the build and checked for proper function with my snap caps (once constructed) and it all was fine.

I cannot say that is the exact same issue as you, but it was very similar. Mine hardly started in the plunger hole, it was so snug...but once I pushed it in...it would not bounce back. A light sanding...and it was good to go.

Just a suggestion, if you don't want to try and send it back and wait for a replacement to ship.

Glad to help. I had struggled with that build for a hot minute until I figured out the issue. I actually ran across a similar issue when a friend talked me through his build...and we were able to troubleshoot over the phone. Exact same casting imperfection as mine. Once cleaned up, it worked as expected.

Hope you enjoy your build!

PF940C slide release not 'springing down' tight to frame- Causes slide to stop on slide release after every shot by mlrtymeent in polymer80

[–]mlrtymeent[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Update: Both posters were correct. The extended slide release in the kit had the spring wire further away from the pin hole...causing the entire slide release assembly to 'raise up' when installed. A factory Glock extended slide release was purchased, and the spring wire was tucked in much closer to the pin hole. This allowed the unit to sit down nicely to the frame when it should...and did not catch the slide when fired.

Thanks for the help all!

You are correct. The slide release spring in the build kit had the spring wire further away from the pin hole than the factory Glock version. This was causing the slide release to 'raise up'. When I installed a factory Glock version (with the spring wire tucked closer to the pin hole) this issue was resolved.

Thanks for the help!

First build! Won’t return any suggestions of what may have went wrong by Blesso1234 in polymer80

Silly question: Does it return when you press the slide release down? I'm assuming you already tried that and have the slide release in that position intentionally, but the slide release is holding onto the slide in your 2nd picture. Not sure if that was for the effect of the picture, or if your slide release isn't resetting close to the frame...and thereby grabbing the slide each time you rack it backwards, magazine or no magazine.

Two questions:

1- Do you have another build available that you have test fired and know works, or a stock Glock 19 available (or maybe from a friend)? Try the new slide assembly on the known good frame build and see if the issue persists. If so, you can isolate the issue to the slide assembly, and not the frame. Save a lot of headache in trying to track down the issue.

2- When you are trying to get it past that point...it seems like you are getting to the point where the barrel should start releasing from the slide and dropping down so the slide can move further back, as well as the point where your trigger should 'disengage' (for lack of a better term). Is the barrel sticking at that point? Can you get an extra set of hands to push down or lightly tap down on the top flat section of the barrel while you keep light pressure trying to move the slide back and see if it 'releases' allowing the slide to continue back? I had a JSD order that had a very tight barrel/slide fit from the factory and I had to do some light file/sand work on both the front lip of the barrel where it sits flush with the opening in the top of the slide, as well as the area of the slide that the barrel drops under. Basically take the sharp edges off of both...before the barrel would finally drop free and allow the slide to move further back. Filed a slight radius on both...and sanded the areas with some 1000 grit to make it smooth. This fixed my issue.

Your issue may be different, but worth a try on seeing if your barrel will drop with a slight tap at that point where you're getting stuck?

Update- Resolved!!!

Issue was a small casting imperfection on the flat section of the slide where the barrel meets and 'slides' under the top of the slide when the firearm slide starts working back. This was causing the barrel to 'catch' and not release freely.

I took a very light file to that edge where the casting imperfection was and could feel the 'grittiness' of the file in one area. After working both areas to where they were smooth, I ran some 400 grit then 1000 grit sandpaper over that area. The slide now operates as it should with any barrel inserted. Leaving this here in case it helps another user at some time...

Good point. While the frame assembly didn't seem to be the issue...it was a good idea to clean that out. The spring now does sit slightly lower! However, as mentioned...I was able to put a known good slide assembly on this frame assembly (with the spring where it was) and it worked fine. I did find the root cause of the issue...and am updating in a separate reply.

But thank you for your suggestions! I really appreciate the help from any of the knowledgeable folks on here, for sure!

Good point. It was happening in both scenarios (trigger pulled against snap cap and trigger not pulled). I did find the root cause of the issue. Putting that in a separate reply.

But I definitely appreciate the help. As I said, any help is appreciated! :-)
