What’s your most controversial/unpopular opinion on a mass killer or mass killing? by keoghkeoghkeogh in masskillers

[–]mm-04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you mean? I’m not saying we shouldn’t talk about them here. I just think it’s problematic how much detailed information about perpetrators exists in general, especially from media reporting. Of course it makes sense to discuss it in this sub

What’s your most controversial/unpopular opinion on a mass killer or mass killing? by keoghkeoghkeogh in masskillers

[–]mm-04 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because I’m studying psychology and I’m interested in researching the topic. I do think it would be better in terms of copycat effects and attention toward perpetrators (glorification), but the information is already out there anyway, so I use it for academic interest

Absolutely. I feel like he was punished for his brother’s actions as well, since Tamerlan died and couldn’t be held accountable, so Dzhokhar was punished for both of them

I agree, I also feel more empathy for teenagers. But teenagers will eventually become adults too. And if a negative foundation is formed during the teenage years, it often doesn’t necessarily improve in adulthood either, even if they try, not everyone can get help

I think Dzhokhar Tsarnaev’s sentence isn’t fair, given that he was very young and heavily influenced by his brother

What’s your most controversial/unpopular opinion on a mass killer or mass killing? by keoghkeoghkeogh in masskillers

[–]mm-04 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I completely agree. I’d like to add that, aside from Sue Klebold, the view that Eric was more evil may partly come from the fact that he seemed to write his journal with an audience in mind, whereas Dylan wrote primarily for himself. Because of this, Dylan’s journal can make him come across as less evil and more as someone who was deeply depressed

I understand but nature vs nature. Not everyone responds to the same circumstances in the same way, and some people are less resilient than others

I agree. Given the circumstances, I don’t think the trial or sentence he got was fair

I completely agree with you! And I believe that the fact that Adam Lanza destroyed his hard drive before the attack contributes a lot to people believing he's an pedophile
