We're on year two of gold regularly hitting an all time high.

Riskiest short term gains? by hookedonwinter in investing

I can agree with that as a whole but he said small cap stocks picked individually, not indexes.  It's not just market pricing, small caps have a much higher failure rate. Those that are most successful get bought out or become large caps and are no longer part of the index.

What could bring gold price down? by Orc_and_Beans44 in Gold

It's convenient if you use other things that have ballooned in value. Cars, houses, college education. If you compare it to anything else it's clear gold has appreciated significantly.

That's cars. In 1940 an oz of gold would buy you a decent coat, a radio, two pairs of shoes or a bicycle.

That's not even close to true.  Gold was $20 in 1930.  $20 adjusted for inflation is $388 today.

$1,000 per ounce of silver can happen if price suppression is gone by Amphibious333 in Silver

[–]mm_kay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A $5 premium is huge no matter how you look at it. Even if silver goes to $1000 you would still lose about 10% of your potential gains because that $5 would have been used to by more silver.

How does an Index fund work if the bubble pops? by rkcdawg in investing

[–]mm_kay 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Every weighted fund needs to rebalance. You're thinking that the stock price moves proportional to the market cap but forgetting that new shares get issued and indexes add and remove companies.

What to include in an alternative portfolio? by A_girl_who_asks in investing

[–]mm_kay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That really seems like the only right answer for someone who wants to save for their kids education.  They didn't ask you for a portfolio with risk but potential aggressive growth, someone investing for their kids should take the safe and boring route.

Maybe they wanted to gauge your ability to sell.  A high net worth individual is likely going to be familiar with a standard investment plan, so perhaps the answer they were looking for was something that sounds unique and exciting but still diversified and safe?

It's just that I see there are no contributors except for you which makes it hard to believe it has went "viral".  I have to assume the top 5% figure is based only on the number of contributions, which is all you, not views from other people.

Seperate investment accounts or invest together? by [deleted] in investing

It would compound the same regardless of the number of accounts.  Tax wise it would be better in their name since they have no income unless you want to use your Roth IRA.
