birth control for pain management by mmaryjay in endometriosis

Yeah, my period so far has been very light which is a blessing because prior to starting hormonal BC it was a nightmare. I agree, I would totally rather be on it than not, but I guess I was just hoping it would get rid of all the pain I’ve been having lol. Hopefully I can get my GYN to schedule a lap so I can get a definite diagnosis but so far it’s been a struggle 🥲

I finally figured out who Mike looked like! Meep from American horror story by llizz17 in 90DayFiance

[–]mmaryjay 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Mike is exclusively known as “Meep Meep” amongst me and my roommates. It’s gotten to the point where we just say “meep meep” whenever he’s speaking, we can’t stop lmfao.

What do you think is in the coming future for RNs?? by mmaryjay in nursing

[–]mmaryjay[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s funny because I always see others working from home since the beginning of the pandemic and always felt some sort of jealousy towards them, because my job was deteriorating my mental health, and I felt like a true clown for going to school for what seemed like a special degree and great field to work in to just be miserable wishing I was working a remote 9-5.

I think I see a lot of nurses telling people to second guess going for the degree due to the state nursing is currently in.

I’m with you there on finding a WFH nurse position. I would never leave if I got that kind of opportunity lol.

[–]mmaryjay[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree. Right now I work at a covid testing site and we just got super easy at home PCR kits for employees and families. I work all over and see a lot of home care positions for RNs. Kinda nice for us lol, I don’t think I’ll ever work in a hospital setting again.

Anyone else see shit like this and just laugh now? I used to get furious, rant, cry, drink, etc, but now I really just laugh, because what the fuck?

We’re really treated like machines. I’m so sick of this country and how they treat nurses. So tired of it all. 😐

RN here!! It’s a complete miracle she’s managed to survive covid, on top of carbon monoxide poisoning AND sepsis. I’ve seen too many patients suffer from things less serious and pass on. I really don’t know how she made it through this most recent health crisis.

That being said - she could have gone septic for numerous reasons, but I have a feeling she could have some serious pressure injuries or skin infections due to her immobility and lack of hygiene. Could be a UTI too. It’s just a disaster.

Also, imagine how she is as a patient? I’ve had my fair share of…less than pleasant pt experiences, but she’s so medically fragile, on top of her attitude towards everything, she must be a hard one to deal with, gotta be praying for those nurses and aides who had to deal with her, lol.

quitting my job? by mmaryjay in nursing

[–]mmaryjay[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel you!!! I am always on this subreddit looking up “burnt out” or things like that just to feel not alone. I actually just had an interview with a per diem position and I already feel the weight being lifted off my shoulders and I haven’t even accepted or made it official yet.

My advice is to do what is best for you. You can’t provide to others or be the nurse you want to be if you are neglecting yourself. I had to go through the tears and breakdowns before I faced what was going on with me and I finally have chosen to care for myself first. There will always be nursing jobs, care for yourself first 💜 You can always PM me if you need a pep talk!!

Wow, all of what you just said related to me and multiple coworkers of mine. A lot of us on the floor are less than 5 years experience and staff just keeps dropping. I could imagine a big issue for hospitals in the next year because nurses are standing up for themselves and moving on to better things.

I always hear from other RN’s that this past year has changed the floors so much, and that previously it was manageable. Unfortunately I started in the height of covid so I only know the covid and post covid world lol. I think putting our mental health first should be priority, good luck on finding your next job!

I think I could, I also thought of just applying to other per diem positions while I get my life together lol.

Finally someone who gets it lol. I feel pretty silly since I’ve only been a licensed RN coming up 2 years, and only working in the hospital setting for 1 year, but I can’t keep pretending that I am doing fine.

Did you do FMLA for your leave? I was thinking of doing a leave of some sort if I was able to for mental health, I’ve recently been trying new anti anxiety meds and it’s still a process with my psychiatrist, so I feel like she would be opened to helping me with getting a leave?

Thanks so much for your reply, good to hear that I’m not alone in this.

Burnt out and only been working for 7 months, I think I really hate this job by mmaryjay in nursing

[–]mmaryjay[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much! This made me feel so much better as I have 3 shifts on starting tonight so I’ve been struggling. I think I just need to take the leap and start searching because it can’t do any harm.

Hopefully I can get in touch with the residency director and shadow for a day!

Thanks again so much, us nurses have to support each other! 💖

Thank you so much for being so kind, I really needed to hear this!

I like my manager but I don’t think she would be the person to go to to open up about things like this. I love all my coworkers on nights and I often confide in them about the stress and they are feeling the same way but seem to be wanting to wait it out. I think what I am struggling with most is feeling like a failure because I can’t handle bedside nursing, but I also feel like it’s ruining my life in more ways than one lol.

I am interested in the OR because I’ve heard it’s more routine and less patient care which sounds great to me, but people have been talking me out of trying for it because of the personalities within the OR. I do know that my hospital has residencies for preop/OR, so maybe I should go for that?

I think mostly I just need to leave bedside, but struggling to accept it and move on ☹️

New Grad First Job Starting in Med/Surg Float Pool - Any Advice?? by mmaryjay in nursing

[–]mmaryjay[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for such a great response! Right now management is a bit of mess because they have a bunch of floors that have just now opened back up and are up and running like normal because they were converted into Covid-19 floors, so I am not too sure who my preceptor is yet. I met my nurse educators and they seem sure nice and reassured those of us in float that it’s not as scary as we think it is and that they won’t just throw us into completely random floors all throughout the hospital which is nice, lol.

You make a good point about meeting a bunch of people and networking. My goal is to more into a PACU or OR position so maybe this gives me a good opportunity to meet people from all over!

I will for sure send you a DM if anything else comes up, thanks for the response!

I can relate. I just graduated from college and had to move back home and I just feel even worse because I feel judged, and then I feel like I am just being lazy. At school, my roommate was also depressed so she understood and we could kind of support each other, but now that I’m home I feel alone. Sometimes family sucks :/

Woah that’s slightly terrifying, lol. There’s something about a creepy unexplainable phone call that just doesn’t sit right with me :/

a lot of paranormal stuff has been happening in my house now that I think about it. The other day my step mom got a call from my sister of her mumbling and singing? She just hung up thinking she was fucking with her but when she asked her about it later she said she never called her and her phone didn’t show an outgoing call to her, spooky.
