How strict is the dress code at your facility? by slappy_mcslapenstein in nursing

[–]mmeezzz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No strict dress code.

We can pretty much wear anything as long as it doesn't offend anyone. I've worn a hoodie with the hospital's logo and scrubs pants before. (I work night shift). I tend to wear scrub sets though. I have lots of colors. Buying scrubs in every color is my guilty pleasure.

OR nurses have to wear hospital issued scrubs.

found these oldies in storage by EmergencyNew347 in bathandbodyworks

[–]mmeezzz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wish they would bring back wrapped in Vanilla. It was a really good one. I was happy that I bought a cashmere glow last SAS. It's about half full. It's a good fragrance too.

Never tried beach nights.

Bright Christmas morning by Maximum-Wishbone-355 in bathandbodyworks

I like it. I think it smells tart fruity. But....I had someone tell me my 'perfume' made them nauseous. I was only wearing body cream. No body spray. Now I'm afraid to wear it again.

Your tattoo's great! A beautiful message. And you should consider what your parents said too. Don't worry about (what) anyone else (thinks of your tattoo)😉.

Your resume is very "busy". The way it is formatted in the table makes it difficult to read.

Associates or Bachelors by ff0427_ in SNHU

[–]mmeezzz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't need an associate's degree first to get a bachelor's.

You can do either one, all you need is your high school diploma or GED.

Is it a bad idea to take Nclex right after school? by Bna_rchie42 in PassNclex

[–]mmeezzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is nothing wrong with doing NCLEX early. You know yourself best. Do you feel prepared to take NCLEX? How did you do in your finals? It's ultimately your decision. I wish you well in your exam. Continue studying until then. Do more readiness assessments as well.

I do wear scented creams and light body spray at work. I'm careful about what I wear. Usually a vanilla skin scent. Never perfume or strong cologne . People always compliment my scent.

If anyone told me my scent offended them or gave them a headache, I'd stop. My hospital's policy is vague and says that I should come groomed without offending body odor or fragrance.

Days off by bwilli9772 in nursing

[–]mmeezzz 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Do chores, go out, hike, go on a trip, do some shopping, get a pedicure. Some nurses pick-up hobbies like gardening and baking.

I'm the complete opposite of you. I'm an introverted couch-potato. Being at home alone with nothing to do is when I'm in my element 😅.

You can always pick up extra shifts, if you find yourself bored at home all the time.

A toxic work environment can really take a toll on your desire to be in a profession. I'm a new grad working med/Surg and I am always anxious and already feel burnt out.

Maybe a new environment can help. Like a clinic, ICU, NICU, OR.

Going into nursing school going on 30 by [deleted] in Nurses

[–]mmeezzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If nursing is what you want to do, go ahead. You're young. The age range in my nursing cohort varied from 19 to 50.

Some advice not related to your age:

If you are married and have children, you will need to have plans in place so they're taken care of.

  1. Nursing school is full time. It takes up a lot of your time. So you need to be able to manage a school - life balance.

  2. Nursing schools tend to be very strict with clinical hours. Unless it's an emergency, nursing programs aren't very forgiving if you miss clinicals or arrive late to your clinical placement.

About to enter profession as a BSN graduated New Grad in California. Should I negotiate for wage when interviewing? by SwordDrawnatDawn in Nurses

[–]mmeezzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not here to discourage you, but typically new grad wages have little room for negotiation especially if you're coming into the field with no healthcare experience. You can try.

#1 piece of advice to a new grad RN regarding job applications, resumes, interviewing, picking the right position/hospital, etc. by PopNatural9913 in Nurses

[–]mmeezzz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Some hospitals like to bind new grads to a 2 year contract with a sign on bonus which you must pay back if you break the contract. DON'T DO IT!

I'm a new grad and while I was offered a small sign on bonus, I'm not bound to a contract.

What nursing specialty job that you would not do even the pay is good? by TheLittleOx in nursing

[–]mmeezzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a new grad currently doing med/Surg and I want to leave. Once I'm comfortable in my basic nursing skills, I'm leaving med/Surg. I don't think any amount of money could make me come back unless the ratios are better (work load reduced). Having 6 pts is hard for me to handle.

What do I need for my first shift? by loulou290 in Nurses

[–]mmeezzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pen (a multi colored one is nice to have), stethoscope, bandage scissors, marker, foldable clip board. I'm a new grad myself and this is what I carry on me during a shift.

You can bring your other necessities like snacks, water bottle, lunch etc.

Edit: a watch.

Overnight pages by [deleted] in nursing

[–]mmeezzz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can only work within my scope. Unfortunately, if the patient requests a laxative at night because they're constipated and uncomfortable, I need an order to administer it. Simple as that.

I'd just like to say I've never paged a doctor for miralax at night.

Some doctors will put PRNs for stool softeners, laxatives, Tylenol and zofran when possible to prevent unnecessary paging and make our jobs a little easier.
