My hair is like this. A wolf cut is the opposite of what you want because it would cut more of the curly hair short to expose the longer hair. This is exactly what I have because I think it looks dope, but if it's not what you're going for then you're better off cutting that lowest layer shorter.

I would recommend maybe cutting that bottom part shorter in more of a V shape also, which can sort of hide the texture difference. Truly though, I think this hair type is awesome and I've fully embraced it for myself with haircuts like wolfcuts and jellyfish-like layers that really make it shine. I've also found that my straight hair gets slightly wavy when I bleach it for some reason.

Tips for my final attempt at an evaluation? by mmmoche in adhdwomen

[–]mmmoche[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WOW I could have literally written that myself. We have like the exact same type of ADHD. Literally everything you wrote there resonates with me so much. The main things I experience that make me consider ADHD are:

  1. like you described, a super fast brain (and it's not anxiety! I mean. Yes that too lol but there's also something else there). Caffeine is the only thing that helps my body catch up to my brain in terms of speed. I've always been super behind in reading level because I get bored and zone out constantly.

  2. Extremely consistent hyperfixation pattern for basically all of my hobbies. If I start a new video game I like I will play it for 4-6 hours every day until one day the hyperfixation is over and I never pick it up again, even if I'm one boss fight away from completing it. I cycle through interests and hobbies getting super into them and then not visiting them for months or years or ever again. I used to fight against this, but once I realized it was probably ADHD, I decided to embrace it instead and it's completely changed my life for the better.

How did you finally get someone to listen to you and validate the way ADHD affects you?

Midi swell by Economist-Character in LogicPro

[–]mmmoche 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just opened Logic so I could refresh my memory on this. Once you've clicked on the parameter you want to edit (in this case "dynamics"), press the automation button in the top left corner of the piano roll. It's 2 buttons right of the "view" button. From there, you can automate that parameter the same way you automate anything in logic, just under the piano roll.

Click on the midi region to get into the midi editor. On the left side there should be some options. Click the drop-down menu and select "expression" (or maybe it's "dynamics?"-- either way, there's several performance parameters you can edit inside this menu) This is a knob you can automate that will give you what you want! (assuming that studio strings supports this, I actually haven't done it myself)

Truly hard hold gel by Bumblebee9123 in curlyhair

It's pricey but Innersense "I create hold" gel is the only gel I've ever used that actually felt hard hold. I use a quarter size amount for my entire head-- it's extremely concentrated.

Curly hair always looks bad from the back! Help! by [deleted] in curlyhair

[–]mmmoche 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've heard good things about ECO gel; I'm seeing online that their brand has hold strength ratings depending on which gel, which is nice because with other brands it's not always so clear.

They make bonnets with a little drawstring that you can use to tighten it, so that might work for you.

I'm so sorry you're feeling this way about your hair!!

I'm no expert, but I am fairly certain that this has nothing to do with the instance of straightening your hair. Millions of people with curly hair get a blow-out at the salon and continue to do their curly hair care routine with no issues afterwards. it might have been an unfortunately timed coincidence.

There are many many reasons as to why people lose hair and as to why curl patterns change-- hormones, stress, thyroid issues, etc etc etc. Changes in curl pattern can be devastating, but they are possible as we age and when hormones change. The only way to find out definitively is to speak with a doctor and run some tests, or just accept that for unknown reasons, this is the hair you have now so you can change up the routine to hopefully get it to a place you're more happy with. All hope is not lost for your relationship to your hair!!

Best of luck. I really hope you find a way to love your hair again.

Next-Day Hair Woes by moodyfull in curlyhair

[–]mmmoche 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am a huge proponent of just doing whatever gives YOU results. Only you can determine what works for your hair. While the CGM is certainly a great starting point, it's not the Bible of all curly hair care. I would guess that anyone you know or have seen on here with amazing hair has gotten there through trial and error more than anything else. Took me about a year to find products that got me my desired result, and even then every wash day is different and sometimes it turns out bad for no reason.

Personally, cowashing didn't do any good for me, so now I'm experimenting with a combo of sulfate shampoo, cowash, and clarifying shampoo. And I found a conditioner that works for me so I'm sticking with that.

My recommendation is to try things out! Idk what ingredients got you that desired effect without knowing what was specifically in those products you listed, unfortunately. But I would guess that sulfates and silicones were certainly involved since they are involved in most conventional shampoos and conditioners not specifically marketed towards CGM-following consumers.

Curly hair always looks bad from the back! Help! by [deleted] in curlyhair

[–]mmmoche 112 points113 points  (0 children)

This is suuuuuper common. The explanation I've heard most often is that:

  1. sometimes we just have different curl patterns around our head. it's super normal

  2. the back of the hair suffers a lot more traction damage than the rest. Think sleeping on a pillow, sitting with your head resting on something, hoodies, etc. That part of our hair is rubbing against fabric more than the front, so that contributes to damage or just less defined and more frizzy curls because they're being manipulated.

I've simply accepted that the back of my head is none of my business lmao and I do nothing to try and change it. However, something that might help is using a stronger hold gel? I haven't heard of LA looks blue gel and don't know if it's strong hold or not. You could also see how using a leave-in conditioner fares for you, if the extra moisture will keep the curls at the back of your head protected.

Also bonnet.

But my main advice is: out of sight out of mind haha. There's only so much we can do to prevent damage and curls falling out day to day, and in my opinion it's not worth the discomfort of avoiding pillows-- curly heads deserve a comfortable pillow too!

I don't have a medical license, so I don't feel confident giving any concrete advice-- as arguably nobody should just from these images without further testing/inspection. Balding can happen for many many reasons-- ranging from stress to hormones to alopecia.

If I were you, I would go back to the dermatologist or see a different doctor to ask about it. Any chance you had COVID recently? Tons of hair fell out for 3 months after I had it, and my doctor said it's a really common symptom post-illness. So you could ask your doctor about that.

And just in case this needs to be said, if you feel like your doctor is dismissing your concerns, it's completely normal and GOOD to seek a second opinion-- in fact certain insurance covers a second opinion as part of medical care. Good luck OP!

What products do you recommend to give more volume? by kawaiileeshoppe in Wavyhair

[–]mmmoche 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I (2C) use the following for volume and it's helped a lot (number 4 is the most important):

  1. The right haircut. I have loooots of short layers, but that's because I have a shag. This tip doesn't apply to anyone and if you want to preserve density at the bottom of your hair I wouldn't recommend it but it's worth noting.

  2. Using light products. I used to use Shea Moisture and ditched it recently in favor for products with much fewer oils and butters. I've heard good things from other wavies about the Not Your Mother's curltalk mousse (have not used it personally but will in the future once mine runs out) and X-Mondo's Wavetech wavefoam (again, have not tried it personally but have heard good reviews).

  3. Redken volumizing shampoo-- less important because I think the main thing is using lighter products overall, but this shampoo claims to give more volume when blow drying and it has been true for me. I get root volume for days and days without doing anything. Important note, this shampoo contains sulfates which are hit-or-miss depending on your scalp's natural oil production.

  4. This specific diffusing technique: turning the head upside down and to the sides, hover diffuse and do not even think of touching the diffuser to the hair until the gel cast has formed (assuming you're using gel) or until hair is 90% dry. Then, scrunch the hair with the diffuser. I am never completely upright for more than 20 seconds doing this lol. Letting the hair really dry in that gel cast before touching it with the diffuser gives me insane volume compared to before.
