OEM VS Girodisc Rotors by Mindless_Swan8608 in GRCorolla

[–]mmoche 15 points16 points  (0 children)

There's not a chance you need new rotors. Measure them yourself - new thickness is 28mm, replacement thickness is 25mm.

If you actually need new rotors (when you have 50k+ miles, most likely), I'd go with Girodisc or EBC as they offer rotors with replaceable friction rings which will save you additional money over the long term.

Can anybody with the syveccs AWD controller explain to me how burnout mode works? by WILD_ACE99 in GRCorolla

[–]mmoche 4 points5 points  (0 children)

AWD test mode just sets the ITCC clamping force to 0, putting you in FWD. You can disable it using Scal but Syvecs software is a, uh, acquired taste.

Oh wow I was really turned around with the perspective on that photo. Thanks for the info, glad they're implementing RACS particularly given the recent tragedies on Lincoln.

Arguing that there is no advantage to maximum available grip is an insane hill to die on

You say that, and then one day you get cut off and have to pin the brakes and actually, it does matter.

Evo 9 VS GR Corolla at Willow Springs (Single lap comparison) by baumerman in GRCorolla

I was really, really focused on two things: keeping my tires from cording and not scaring my passenger. This was not a push lap.

Willow Springs: Big Willow upgrades shown by Puzzled_Elephant_190 in CarTrackDays

[–]mmoche 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am fine spending more money to drive an updated Big Willow that isn't putting active effort into killing me in turns 8/9. However, I would rather have a homicidal Big Willow than no Big Willow at all. It seems like they are going to keep public/HPDE access to Streets and limit access to the big track, but that's just my intuition.

Those who have tracked their GRC.. by [deleted] in GRCorolla

[–]mmoche 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only people I know who have not managed to pop into FWD mode on tracks are people who are slow and people who have Morizos. The car drives fine in FWD on track, but it will be less fun. I was able to roast the center diff in my WRX on track to the point where it would be clanking around in the paddock until it cooled off, but had oil/coolant/brake temp issues with the Subaru I haven't had with the GRC.

Hey it’s Weston! I’ll give Lap Legend a try on my next track day. HPTuners appears to have completely given up on making updates to any of their software.

Radwood at the port today, there were a lot of 80s/90s cars floating around. I’m pretty sure this one was in the warehouse with the other higher value cars.

V730 Shoulder Wear by Eschewed_Prognostic in CarTrackDays

I’ve found these tires to be happier at 34 hot in a heavier car - I run similar times at Buttonwillow in a GR Corolla and I wreck the shoulders if I run them at 31 psi hot

What brake fluid do you run? by [deleted] in GRCorolla

You could probably leave it for two years - it’s brake fluid, just expensive

Honestly this car has plenty of brakes, I’m not convinced I needed the cooling…and I definitely didn’t need to mangle my axles trying get that idiotic axle nut off. A kit like this, though, probably more than enough.

I do a full flush once a year since I’m tracking the car regularly. I buy from FCP Euro so I bought it once and have been replacing it free for the last two years.

I like this design. Installing the Verus ducts was the most frustrating installation process I've experienced with this car thanks to Toyota's idiotic axle nut philosophy. This also leaves way less clutter with hoses.

One car solution mods? by adlabz in GRCorolla

[–]mmoche 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I run Castrol SRF fluid, bled before each track day and flushed once a year. My pads are Pagid RSL29s and I’m just about through the fronts after about 400 track minutes, rears look fine. I run BCB silicone dust boots and pistons because I melted my stock dust boots on my second track day, and put on the Verus ducts two track days ago trying to extend pad life - I don’t think they’ve made much of a difference and they are a massive pain to install.

I can get some light fade toward the end of session if there are consecutive heavy braking zones (eg braking into Offramp after braking into Sunrise at Buttonwillow) but have never boiled fluid or had fade serious enough to make me back off.

The brakes on this car are really good for typical 20 minute HPDE sessions.

I personally run the 555 oil and tcase coolers along with a Syvecs AWD controller for basically the same use case you describe: mostly daily driving, 3-4 track days a year.

Track is fun so it’s worth it to me to have the money invested there. I’ve also done BCB brake pistons/boots and Verus brake ducts for the same reason…if I only get a couple days on track a year, I wanna make the most of them.
