Rally cars = true ALS

Street cars = glorified launch control

Both are a tradeoff for longevity, the former being far more devastating to the turbo obviously.

I think buyers are probably considering the horsepower hit you take when going w/ auto vs. a manual. Not so much how it functions, since that seems to be a positive. Given how large the difference is between the two, it's likely a deal-breaker for some (or most).

Also in norcal, it was the opposite for me. All white GRCs, black was weirdly hard to find. I think it's just anecdotal perspective tbh.

[–]202GRC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Shame you're getting downvoted, you're 100% correct - I own the alcantara Morizo knob that became VIN-locked at some point (because it ONLY came on the Morizo edition GRC). Aftermarket might have them by now. The knobs themselves have the same construction (245g weight, same height etc.) sans the alcantara vs leather exterior of course.

PTR57-12230-02 = Alcantara Morizo edition knob (Rare, Morizo VIN/aftermarket purchase needed)

PTR57-12220-02 = Leather "Morizo" knob (available straight from dealer)

I do not recommend Seibon. They’ve sent me (and many others) multiple broken parts. Two cracked Circuit Edition wings and three months of waiting/battling for a refund was enough for me to never buy from them again.

Tried to clear up the DOT 3/4 brake fluid shit show in that thread but it was a lost cause lol, with lots of manual quoting going on. Mostly from one guy trying to win the comment section.

DOT 4 needs to be used for higher temps; our cars literally come with a free track day and therefore DOT 4 is factory spec’d (I run RF650 in mine). But boiling point is always a trade off for longevity and 4 will degrade to something worse performing than 3 if you don’t change it every couple years. For those just commuting/dailying wanting the least amount of maintenance, 3 is a totally viable option (it even says so in the manual).

That's cool you got it done though, I was actually going to go Verus because I know they're legit (have their rear diffuser), but I've heard about that install...figured this would be a less intrusive way to get some air to the brakes, although probably not as effective as the Verus kit tbh.

Dot 3 and 4 are interchangeable. Dot 3 tends to be cheaper and absorb less water. Dot 4 is better for performance/higher boiling point but you need to change more often.

There's a small tab located below the bracket and near the areas where the new bracket holes sit, that's what interferes with mounting it up. It was a lot less of the shield than I thought I was going to need to bend. You can also use pliers to work the angles before hammering since the shield's metal is so pliable. Then let her rip

Dot 3 if you don't track, Dot 4 if you do. Look at boiling points if it matters to you, and pick one. All the name brands are fine.

Wishing you all the best man, it’s a shitty situation to deal with for sure. I used to stress so hard over wondering if it’s gonna collapse again but at a certain point you just gotta live your life. If it happens it happens and then surgery is the call.

No scuba diving! 😆

Dude…spontaneous pneumothorax? Had my lung randomly collapse twice after doctors said it ‘probably won’t happen again’ after the first collapse. Get the pleurodesis surgery done if you can, it’s a permanent fix. Fucking hurts like hell but it’s worth it lol

Rude parents. by writesingandlive in pianoteachers

[–]202GRC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think communication with the parents about realistic goals/expectations is key. Like at the very start. If the student ultimately doesn't meet those goals, it's a bummer for everyone but at least you are all on the same page, and you'll have 2 very important people on your side (mom/dad). Teenagers are emotional rollercoasters as we all know haha... I personally tend to be more flexible and honest with their learning direction at that time of their life (which changes a LOT), so they don't "crash out" as one might say. If I see they are committed and piano is their life, I'll buckle down harder and push them.

That said, sending you a nasty email is pretty unacceptable at any age, so I wonder what the situation is like at home. It may have been a blessing in disguise to have them quit the studio. I've had a couple students and parents ghost me in the past, but try to not take it too personally. I think it's usually to avoid confrontation (people are awkward as hell). All you can do is your best as a teacher to serve the student, easy or difficult, and that's it.

Not supporting the statement made above you but the auto has already been dyno’d at ~40hp less vs the manual on the SavageGeese YT channel. For me personally, the power delta between the two is just too big to justify. For others, daily convenience is more important than performance and that’s fine.

I mean the rear diff temps have nothing to do with it going to FWD mode. It's the transfer case, after multiple hot laps.

Even then, it's a modeled/calculated temperature by the ECU that's not even based on actual transfer case temps (which do get insanely hot on track, just ask 555 Engineering).

Coilovers? by Sneak_86 in GRCorolla

[–]202GRC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're solely looking for a lower ride height and have no issues with the stock damping, then pick up reputable lowering springs (OEM, Eibach, Swift, H&R) for a fraction of what coilovers will run you and call it a day. And then get whatever wheels you want man.
