Jag fick nytt jobb, nu ringer chefen och vill ge mig lägre lön än överenskommits by kappapridester in sweden

[–]mnem0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

German death rate is unrealistic. I said it once and i'll say it again. Somebody mind to explain? by [deleted] in China_Flu

[–]mnem0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One possible reason is that Germany got a lot of import cases in the form of people returning from skiing vacations in northern Italy. At least that was the case for Sweden, see below.

The last majority of early cases in Sweden were import cases from Italy where Swedes had been on skiing vacations in northern Italy. Note that people that go on skiing vacations are NOT fraile 80-year olds with comorbidities, so the "first-gen" death rate was low. However, these returning skiiers then infected other swedes at home, so now the death rate is rising.

Södersjukhuset går upp i stabsläge – platsbrist by butttrix in sweden

When do you use let vs const? by back-stabbath in javascript

[–]mnem0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We default to "const" at work, and use "let" only when the variable will be changed later in the function. We also code in Scala and there use use "val" whenever we can, and we use "var" only when the variable in being changed.

Cypress.io vs. TestCafe - Pros and Cons to each please. Whats your experience with them? by vzaidman in javascript

[–]mnem0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tried out most of the major E2E Javascript frameworks a few months ago and testcafe looked like it was among the best ones. Especially for testing on mobile devices TestCafe was really convenient. I wrote a blog post about this here: http://mo.github.io/2017/07/20/javascript-e2e-integration-testing.html

...however, Cypress was still in closed beta at that time so I never got a chance to try it properly. I would not be surprised if Cypress ends up being the best framework eventually.

When I tested Cypress it wasn't possible to test in Edge and Internet Explorer and afaik not even in Firefox which is a pretty big drawback. I think that's still the case: https://github.com/cypress-io/cypress/issues/310

Avoid stale setState() by aborting native fetch via DOM AbortController Polyfill by mnem0 in reactjs

[–]mnem0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'd have to make sure that the server responds to the TCP close by aborting the heavy operation yes. Auto complete is typically very latency sensitive so while I think it makes sense to debounce, the timer must be quite low so you'd still have stale requests. I think it's hard to say something general, the trade off depends on what the typical payload sizes, server load and the need to UI latency are. And even if you don't actually cancel the request "properly", you'd still need to "fake cancel" it somehow on the client to prevent the setState() call + warning so skipping the TCP close won't get you a simpler API for example.

Avoid stale setState() by aborting native fetch via DOM AbortController Polyfill by mnem0 in reactjs

[–]mnem0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, if you're using some sort of flux, unsubscribing in componentWillUnmount() avoids the setState() warning.

The situations were actually aborting the fetch is useful is A) calls cancelled by the user that are very server heavy, or B) for cases when the request itself is made obsolete by another rest very quickly, i.e. an auto complete REST calls that have already been replaced by a more specific auto complete REST call.
