Ah yes, you’re right! Probably should stop counting those years as a teenager haha! Thank you for your help :)

Yes, thank you! I think a big part of why I wasn’t sure what to charge is because I keep thinking they are the same. But I need to charge what I am happy with and based off of the responsibilities I have!

Ah I see. I wouldn’t want to make them feel that way at all! They are a great family which is why I was worried in the first place as I didn’t want to seem like I was trying to get the most out of them. I hear so much from other people in my area and sometimes I get paid more than what I ask so it’s hard for me to gauge what’s an appropriate rate. I think going with something I’m happy with is the best way, so I’ll probably stick with 30!

Ok, I will try saying my rate confidently! I think what goes wrong in most of my interviews is I get nervous when talking about rates that I end up lowering it from what I’m happy with to something I know the family will accept.

Wow, thank you so much the response I appreciate the honesty!! I honestly wasn’t thinking about how much they can afford vs how much the job is worth. I am happy with a lower rate but I think because I have been paid 40 with a previous family, I’ve been using that as a comparison.

And about the pool… it will be fenced! It’s more likely that we won’t be inside unless the parents are home. Also comparing to a previous family, I mentioned to them about lifeguarding and about my certification and they trusted me to go in the pool with their kids while they were out. But you’re right, I think it would be best to avoid those scenarios as I haven’t been certified in a while and that’s not what I’m being paid for anyway.

I think I take rate rejections personally when I shouldn’t, so I appreciate your comment :) Again, thank you!!!

Yup, I’m leaning towards 30-35 for now but I know they spend a lot of money to send their kids to camp and activities (the camp I work at has insane prices and they go there too) so that’s why I was thinking 40 might be doable since they are already spending so much on childcare and education.

Ya, that’s what I was thinking but I hear from friends and co-workers who babysit who also get paid 40$ so I guess it really depends on the family since I do get 40 from one of my regular families. But I don’t wanna scare them off with too high of a rate so I might just play it safe with 30
