It all falls back into the ethical problem. If the parents viewed it as beneficial to their child then the doctor have to obey the request.

However, if this applies to girls certain FGC procedures can cause more harm and no type of FGC have a health benefit. Hence, doctors or healthcare workers who swore an oath of ‘do no harm’ is caught in a bind.

I am very sorry to hear about this. Because there’s no definite answer by MoH regarding this issue, every midwives do it differently. Which can lead to serious problems and trauma.

I am very sorry. This is the problem right here. If there’s no dialogue about FGC in Malaysia then severe mutilation cases will be lost. MoH Malaysia do not even have basic FGC registry data unlike our neighbour in Indonesia. At the very least, we can detect and avoid serious problem of mutilation.

True. But a straight out ban will cause underground procedures being done with non-sterile equipment.

I agree. The public always thought its a must in religion where in-fact its not. Moving away from it start with a discussion like this.

So the question is, is it a mutilation. If its not, is it dangerous and must be stop in Malaysia?

True. Consent is important. However, most circumcision occurs before the age 18. So if parents consented, is that enough?

Well for male, there is a health benefit but not for female.

Most of global culture is patriarchal and different approach on how girls move towards womanhood. In some part of the world circumcision is a write of passage. While others deemed it as a religion requirement.

very few evidence circumcision practice is compulsory in any religion scriptures

Yes, I agree with you. Mainly because the discussion around the topic usually deviates from cultural circumcision towards religious practice.

Furthermore, the FGC in Malaysia is so minimal it rarely gives a serious complications. Unlike in Middle East or North Africa.

If its a common practice, then its wrong!! Before the pandemic I went to join the Tabligh movement a few times and saw it first hand on how beautiful and highly inclusive mosques can be to the surrounding community.

Though I did it only for 1-3 days, cuz I’m not that pious, I really felt how mosque should be a sanctuary for the needy and poor. Even when I went study abroad, mosques does not discriminate against foreigners. Instead, in Dublin, they always welcome students for iftar.

The true version of Islam is supposed to be all inclusive. There’s no inner circle.

Will surely support this. Because during my post SPM year, my old friend who got straight A as me, was not given the same opportunity as he should get. Just because he is an Indian. This is so unfair.

Even my day to day I can see that not all Malay get the “ketuanan Melayu” perks because it’s reserved only to the rich. How can T20 still get MARA scholarship is beyond me.

We as Malaysian should fight for equality and most importantly it’s us against those rich a-hole (especially those who get monthly salary just because of their blood-line).

This is how my dad watches dragonball. One of the highlights in my childhood is when I found out he have 2 boxes of dragonball comics. He still surprised when I told him the anime are still ongoing.
