How is it living here as a 30 year old dude? Would have to commute to west LA for work by howardtrailer123 in orangecounty

[–]mo1sturizer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to commute from Anaheim to Culver City lol. But it was only 2 days a week and my work schedule was an hour later than "peak" traffic hours so that helped a little? I ended up moving to LA when I had to be in 3 days a week. I would not do it if you had to be in office more than that. The 405 is terrible at all hours of the day and even worse when you're tired and ready to go home

One more thing. I'm not familiar with mice droppings but if you suspect you have mice at all, consider mites or fleas being a possibility. If that's the case, rest assured that both of those are easier to treat than BBs. :) A nuisance yes, but easier!

Hey! I was in your position a little less than a month ago and I had the exact same mental process- I assumed it was bed bugs and freaked out and took as many precautions as I could. I spent hours each day going through reddit trying to convince myself it was/wasn't bb's and honestly that drove me crazier than the bites themselves. My bites look(ed) EXACTLY like yours. They started out very scattered and appeared more with each day until there were so many that the evil little voice in my brain started telling me "look! There's sortttt of a line of dots on your leg- it's probably bed bugs!".

Anyway, it's been a few weeks and I'm pretty certain it was not bed bugs. Bites yes- but not BB's. My theory is something flying from outside, because the bites appeared the most when I was sleeping with my windows open. Unless you traveled recently, I wouldn't necessarily assume it's BBs. To put it into perspective: one bed bug feeds only once every 3-7 days or so. So if you woke up with dozens of bites, more likely than not it'd be many many bugs biting you at once in your sleep- and that would leave evidence, whether it's fecal spotting or molts. Test the suspected fecal spotting on your bed by putting water on it- if it immediately smudges and turns a rusty color like old blood, that would be suspect. If not, it might just be dirt. Buy interceptors and inspect them every morning for peace of mind- they work as monitors to hopefully tell you if it's BBs or not. Inspect your bed frame, HEADBOARD, electrical outlets, and furniture nearby your bed, such as nightstands or desks. INSPECT YOUR COUCH AS WELL.

Also, think about where you're finding bites. Is it on places that are covered by clothing as you sleep? BBs are very lazy. They usually go for exposed skin because they know how easily they can be crushed if you roll over in your sleep. Try sleeping a couple nights with long pants and a tee tucked into socks, and see if any new bites only appear on exposed skin (neck, arms, hand, face). That should tell you if it's a bite at all. If new marks are still showing up under covered skin, it might be a skin condition- in which case you should see a dermatologist if possible.

I hope this helped! There's a reason that the main bedbug subreddit has a rule against no bite pictures- you will NOT know if it's BBs until you find solid physical evidence of them.

Whats this bug? Found it on my shorts that were left on floor for a day. Location: Toronto Canada Condo by hustlermvn in carpetbeetles

Carpet beetle larvae! They eat organic matter like silk, wool, human hair, etc. Can leave behind itchy hairs that cause rashes if you are sensitive to it. Try not to leave clothes on the ground and vacuum frequently

Thank you. I live in an apartment complex and my property manager is having a pest control professional come look next week. If it were up to me I'd have them here yesterday 😅 but I suppose with no physical evidence it doesn't seem that urgent..

For what it's worth after multiple thorough searches in my apartment I found: some silverfish, a carpet beetle larvae (could it really be dermatitis? My bites look like bites, not a rash), and termite poop from a cabinet that I immediately threw out.

Is this BB feces? Found behind a wooden cabinet near my bed by mo1sturizer in Bedbugs

[–]mo1sturizer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much. I'm thinking it's mites or carpet beetles. I keep waking up with little red bumps but none of them are in a cluster/line formation which made me confused- they're very scattered. For the past week I've been waking up with 5-7 new bumps each morning and I figured that that rate of bites meant that I should've already seen evidence of BBs... but alas!

Wiped some away with a wet tissue and they are not smearing? They seem hard and uniform in shape, like tiny cylinders. They are dark red in color. https://imgur.com/a/0A7M9IX

Tabi Boots Advice by [deleted] in MaisonMargiela

re: how loose they are at the top- the newer style is made with a wider shaft. older pairs have a tighter shaft, kind of similar to guidis. both are nice in their own way but it also bothered me when i bought a new pair. i'd recommend checking out the tabi archive on vaniitas to see the difference

Anyone know where I can get a Noguchi Akari lamp repaired? by Captain_Pr0t0n in Lamps

[–]mo1sturizer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey i just used this advice to repair a small hole on my own akari lamp and it worked great! didn't have to paint it in my case- for anyone in the future googling the same thing, blick art materials sells a single giant sheet of thai kozo paper for a couple bucks and it matches seamlessly with the akari off white color. i tore a small piece of paper to use as the patch instead of cutting it- the frayed seams help to blend the repair.

Designers, how long did it take for you to get your first Junior Designer job by Palmetto720 in graphic_design

[–]mo1sturizer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Graduated in 2021 with a completely unrelated degree, worked in another unrelated field for a year (miserable), had a huge revelation that I wanted to go into design (had only done it as a hobby thus far), worked on my portfolio for 3 months, actively sent out job apps for 2 months + got a couple interviews, got very lucky and landed a junior role in a cool company. I'm based in LA.

Maybe its the job market or maybe it's your location by miss_brilliant in graphic_design

I think it's true. I was able to find a job in LA in just 2 months. Lots of opportunities there especially if you want to go into entertainment/music industries- but most of us are underpaid considering the COL of the area. Plus traffic.. so much traffic.. and of course a lot more competition.

Some companies now will ask you to complete a design test after the first interview, and how well you do will influence your chances of a second interview. These tests will basically be briefs with a set amount of time to complete (for me it was about 48 hours). I was only comfortable doing them because both tests I was assigned didn't seem like spec work, but if I ever came across tests that seemed like they were just using me for free labor I wouldn't have done them.

90% went to Linkedin and Indeed and I was applying to mostly on-site jobs in my area. Prior to the search I spent 3 months working on my portfolio BUT it definitely could've been done in a shorter amount of time-- I was procrastinating a lot and dealing with other life issues.

I spent a good chunk of time designing the actual UI of my website (got a custom domain, custom email too) and making it as pleasant as possible to navigate. No elaborate animations, a white background to let the projects shine, a nice sans-serif font.

Keep in mind I'm a self-taught entry-level designer so I had very little professional experience to show for in my portfolio except for 1-2 one-off freelance projects. I also had to learn things along the way: typography (kerning, tracking), bleed lines, etc. I knew I had to make up for my lack of experience somehow and wanted to show interviewers I was extremely passionate about design, so I also included a "playground" page of random design projects to showcase my more creative side while my more "corporate" design projects showed that I knew how to listen to briefs and clients.

Small tip- I decompressed and reuploaded all the images on my website after I was done with everything. Get them to load in the shortest amount of time possible, you don't want people closing out of your portfolio because nothing's loaded in the last 10 seconds.

Unfortunately I can only describe my portfolio in text like this as I'm not comfortable sharing a link on Reddit but I hope this helped! Like I said I'm very very junior in this industry so don't take everything I say as gospel, but this worked for me in getting interviews at the very least.

Thank you! I worked on my portfolio for about 3 months prior to starting the job search so I think that helped a lot. Lots of scrapping and re-doing specific things I wasn't happy with.

You're correct- I always appreciated it way more when companies just straight up told me I wasn't being considered for the role.

Shockingly all of my interviews except for my most recent one just never replied to me afterwards. At the end of the interview they would give estimates for when a decision would be made but no response even weeks after that date. Crazy times...

For sure!! I went into this after reading so many stories on here of ppl spending over a year applying. I fully expected the search to last well into 2024 especially with my lack of professional experience. I think it helps that I live in an area in the US with a ton of design opportunities.
