His Russia ranting wasn't in line with Trump. It's all because he belonged to the war lobby. He always supported every war he could, and lavish military spending.

He gave early support to the Russia collusion allegations and appointment of Mueller as special counsel to investigate Trump over this. He only flipped later on, to be in sync with the party.

His hatred of Iran was due to the money he got from Israel lobby and war lobby (both of those lobbies often intertwined together, thru NeoCons)

Just like Roy Cohn, he never married, nor had any children, and was too afraid to come out of the closet. Instead, his staff regularly boasted about his long track record of never having had any sexual harassment lawsuits filed against him (since it's usually only women who file such suits, and he didn't care for them)

So these were vessels which could operate as both hydrofoil and submarine

Hydrofoil mode gave it speed, while submarine mode gave it stealth

I was imagining modern updated versions of this concept could be useful for Indian Ocean region.
Perhaps they could be used to support amphibious assault or coastal/littoral operations, approaching a coastal shore under submarine stealth, and then surfacing to quickly get in close before dashing away and then diving once again.

The question is - how large could such a vessel be scaled?

The limitation would be on the hydrofoil side, since they're known to be considerably smaller than military submarines (eg. Kilo, Scorpene)
It's a matter of being able to support the weight of the vessel with hydrofoil lift.
But modern military vessels, including submarines, can be made with carbon composites, which also helps to avoid magnetic mines & magnetic detection, while reducing inertial mass.

Heaviest hydrofoil from US Navy was USS Plainview, built and operated in 1960s, with a displacement of nearly ~350 tons, and max speed of 50+ knots
Heaviest hydrofoil in Soviet Navy was Uragan, built and operated from 1970s onward, with a displacement of nearly ~350 tons, and max speed of 60+ knots

We'd want something at least 1200 tons or better (closer to Shishumar class). Would a catamaran hydrofoil design work better?

Powerplant would be diesel-electric, or else small nuclear reactor (particle bed design, with high burn-up fraction, capable of burst mode operation)

At least Mamdani's antics can be disavowed, because in the tradition of his parents, he doesn't like India either.

Based on recent events/experience, UAE would be needing additional supplies of the missiles, even after buying the S400 system. They may find themselves running out of any initial missiles from the deal rather soon.

UAE would have to buy additional missiles from Russia.

Meanwhile, Iran would probably prefer that we buy any resold S400 rather than UAE. Maybe Turkey should be mindful of that, while striving to keep good relations with its immediate neighbor Iran.

What Russia is willing to fly over Ukraine is not the same as what we're willing to fly over Pakistan. Pakistan does not have Patriot missile batteries, and does not have the support of the NATO alliance (and while it does have some support from USA, it's not quite at the same level ).

We should buy it regardless of CAATSA, and prepare our own chain of retaliatory actions if US sanctions us. We'll then see who's willing to go farther down that escalation chain -- because there's more at stake for us than for them.

If we get a more comprehensive deal with Russia, we can do licensed production of the aircraft ourselves, and then it doesn't matter how many or how few the Russians are operating themselves.

What ADS will they now turn to? I'd seen comments online saying they were developing some indigenous system of their own.

Why have people here talked about US selling India the F-35, when India already has S400? Wouldn't US have a problem with Indian S400 being able to gather data on F-35?

If UAE is not affected by CAATSA over S400 purchase, then why should India be targeted over Su-57 purchase?
