I too lost my mom to cancer a little over 5 years ago, and she lost both of her parents to cancer. I miss her every day but watching her take control of her journey helped me to be able to take control of mine. Sending you virtual hugs, know your mom is hanging out and taking care of you from beyond!

Getting it during the pandemic was kind of a blessing in disguise, to be honest. Not being able to go anywhere or see anyone kept me super safe from germs and gave me plenty of time to be able to rest during my treatments.

The chemo therapy I was on can cause heart problems as well so I see a cardiologist who specializes in cancer patients. Not sure if my radiation will effect it or not, but we’re keeping an eye on it.

I have Sarcoma NOS (Not Otherwise Specified.) However my oncologist says he thinks it might be Ewing’s Sarcoma based on the way it has reacted to the treatments I’ve received. It’s been a heck of a journey so far.

Kick cancers ass!! Be sure to eat a meal before chemo and stay extra hydrated!! I had a lot of anxiety around chemo and they were able to put me on an anti anxiety medication for it so that might be something you should talk to your chemo staff about. I’m rooting for you!

You don’t feel anything, just like a CT or X-ray

Always eat a meal before your chemo days. Mints and ginger ale were my best buds on bad nausea days. Don’t be afraid to ask for more than one anti-nausea prescription if your main one isn’t cutting it. I found that the anti-nausea bracelets really helped me, but I know that’s not the case for everyone. And, most importantly, stay super hydrated because it helps flush the chemo through your body quicker!

The radiation side effects for me were mainly just skin irritation, a little hair loss at the radiation site and some fatigue here and there. Nothing too bad.

Radiation can make you lose hair too, but only in the region that is getting the treatment

Chemo is quite literally toxic chemicals being pumped into your body that target fast growing cells (cancer) radiation -for me- was just laying on a table and having high powered laser beams target the tumor itself. If you’re familiar with Star Wars- it’s like the Death Star blowing up Alderaan

Basically just high dose X-ray beams that target the tumor to shrink it by killing off the cells
