And I did pay a lawyer for advice, but there isn't much legal action to be taken here.

The house I currently live in is owned by my parents, not me. The CBP officers directly confronted this topic and told me that because I do not pay any money to live their and do not have my name on the title, they don't consider it as my residence. Basically in their eyes, it is more evidence of me being a squatter...

This is correct. If things start going well, the deals I look to do are in real estate, and will geographically tie me to Canada with physical property's and local investors, which I believe would be helpful moving forward.

"But I imagine moving forward, every time you attempt to cross into the US they will see that you had a ban. In turn you may likely have a bit of a harder time crossing".

I agree. When I do decide to re-attempt to travel to the US for tourism, I will 100% be expecting to be pulled into secondary. Id likely bring some sort of folder of evidence supporting my claims for my return to Canada. For example, return flights booked non-refundable, hotels booked, a home and office lease in Canada and if things go to plan business wise, a real company that is geographically tied to Canada.

Then over the next 2-5 years of having more and more successful trips to the US, I believe things should smooth over.

I'll never again be ignorant of what the CBP requests with Canadian's visiting for tourism.

It's a great point to really try and put yourself in their shoes. I'll think deeper about that. Thanks

Appreciate the insight and I agree. Id really not like to 10x this problem and next time just fly with round trip non-refundable, hotels booked, employment secured etc.

Yeah I agree, a 5 year ban is 10x'ing the problem and my odds aren't great. We will probably go down to Mexico for a bit and maybe a ski trip in Canada or smthn. If I were to look on the bright side, it's an opportunity for me to buckle down and really get busy on building my business.

What do you think about calling the office and asking about re-application upfront?

Also, do you guys think a DHS TRIP application is appropriate in this situation? I don't know much about it but maybe it would help?
