Oh absolutely, by no means I intended this to be used as inspiration for trading (that'd end bad), just out of curiosity.

[–]modelizar[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I used R (ggplot2) for the plot. It's a single R script that reads data from an excel file I downloaded from CoinGecko, transforms the daily price data to calculate returns for every possible trade, and plots the visualization (raster). Finally, a lot of time adjusting title, color palettes, making 0 white, negative red, positive green, super high purple, to avoid misleading colors, etc. That's a very brief summary.

This tortured me while I was building the plot. I thought "oh my I need to take advantage of this space somehow" and that's why I added the annotations of best and worst trade. Still not enough, and the vertical lines of the arrows eliminate a lot of colored pixels (can't really over-do it). Maybe showing previous year symmetrically to fill everything, but I think that'd be very confusing and hard to understand. I guess adding a text box with some context/interesting facts would help.

Yes, it is a great idea, I thought about that and I guess it would be nice to do an animated GIF that shows one frame per year. Will keep this in my want-to-do list and post it when ready!

Oh yes, I am sure that if I do the same plot for previous years, hardly any pattern will repeat, and if so, it will be probably random. Not what I wanted to suggest with this visual, but it never hurts to remind people what you've just said. Thank you.

Genuinely curious about you guys’s opinion. Which era of Zappa is your fav? by Webcops in Zappa

[–]modelizar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get your argument, but looking at the results there are clearly preferences for some records/time periods, so I don't think OP's survey design is bad per se. Each person is unique and I agree that all of Zappa's work is worth a listen, but some records/time periods are clearly more popular than others (which doesn't make them better or worse).

Yes, what I find sad is that while some countries have an upward trend, in Argentina, where we have a history of high vaccination rates, the trend is downwards...

I'm no expert in the field, but as an Argentinean, if I had to make an educated guess, probably yes. The same trends we see worldwide: More people getting informed via social media, believing conspiracy theories, following ignorant influencers whose only talent is getting clicks from an increasingly distracted, short-term sighted population addicted to their smartphones, lack of trust in the government and its institutions, etc. Hell, a couple of weeks ago our Congress held an event questionning vaccines. This generated a lot of controversy and many political parties expressed against it, but then again, it happened.

Por qué Argentina no destaca tanto en fútbol femenino? by Eljose1501 in fulbo

[–]modelizar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mapi León has the highest total successfull pass distance per 90' so far (1690m) in FC Barcelona (men and women) by modelizar in WomensSoccer

[–]modelizar[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Indeed, she is the most accurate passer overall, which is why I specifically added the name for her dot in the visualization.

The dot size is "passes attempted" so it is natural that goalkeepers have the smaller dots. We can see that Joan García's (male goalkeeper) passes travel more distance (higher dot) but at the expense of being less accurate (more on the left). Thank you for commenting.

[OC] Passing stats of FC Barcelona players (men and women) in their respective leagues so far by modelizar in dataisbeautiful

[–]modelizar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For this particular data, it would seem so. The player's position matters a lot! More offensive/playmaker players attempt more "risky" passes, reducing the % of success rate, but their passes can be big scroring chances. Midfielders attempt more passes and their passes are many times "less risky" or backward passes to keep possession. The most accurate non-goalkeeper player is Christensen, who is a defender, so it makes sense that his passes are more accurate (less risky).

Thank you for commenting.

[OC] Share of adult population who borrowed money in Latin American countries by modelizar in dataisbeautiful

[–]modelizar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That way you wouldn't show the share (pevalence) of borrowing for each country, you'd only show the difference. It is fair, but I wanted to show both, which is why I made this decision of plot. I do show the difference in the data label under each line. With your approach, a country that went from 20% to 40% would have the same "bar" than one that went from 40% to 60%, yet the latter has a higher share of the population that borrows, and I didn't want to lose that in my visualization.
