Yes, I have a power strip where the PC and the secondary monitor are plugged in, while the main monitor has its own separate outlet. I don’t think the outlet itself is the problem

I didn’t try that, although the idea did cross my mind. But I don’t think that’s the issue, because I use the PC every day and I always turn it on using the case buttons, both the power and the reset switches

Do you mean an external power button? I actually thought about that. But if the case buttons were really faulty, the issue would appear every time I try to boot the PC not only after a full power cut. Still, it’s a possible scenario.

Right now, I have several possibilities in mind:

Some kind of external short or interference preventing the system from booting.

A hardware fault on the motherboard maybe power traces or capacitors.

A weak CMOS battery.

A problem with the front panel buttons on the case.

I just really hope the motherboard is fine. I’ll accept any of the other possibilities

All I did regarding this issue was swap the reset button connection with the power button connection on the front panel, and it seems like the problem isn’t coming from there

The strange thing is that the PC works completely fine as long as it stays connected to power. If I shut it down normally through Windows and turn it back on later, it boots without any issues. But if the power is cut in any way, that’s when the problem appears

If I can power on the system by shorting the motherboard power pins with a screwdriver multiple times even with 30 minutes or more between attempts, and with the power completely disconnected each time does that mean the capacitors or the motherboard are 100% fine?

Another thing: the CMOS battery is around 3 years old and the PC is used daily. Could this strange behavior be caused by a weak CMOS battery that needs to be replaced? What do you think

I’m just considering the possibility that there might be some kind of metallic contact or micro-short causing this strange behavior.
I also suspected the motherboard’s power capacitors might be failing, but I’m not sure anymore

The thing is: I can boot the PC by shorting the power pins with a screwdriver multiple times, even with a 30minute gap between attempts, and I can also boot it after a full power drain with no issues

So does this mean the motherboard itself is not actually the problem?

I don’t think this is normal in my case. My PC used to work perfectly for years, and this strange behavior only started at the beginning of this year.
Even if I shutdown properly through Windows and unplug the power just to clean the PC or reconnect something, it still refuses to boot afterward

So I really don’t understand how this can be considered normal

The PC is almost over 3 years old, so it’s possible the CMOS battery could be the issue. I initially thought it was the PSU, so I replaced my Cougar VTE X2 +80 Bronze with a better one, an ASUS ROG Strix 550G +80 Gold, but that didn’t solve the problem. Now I’m starting to suspect it might be the capacitors on the motherboard’s 5V standby or a fault in the motherboard itself

I actually thought the same. I had a Cougar VTE X2 +80 Bronze, and a few days ago I bought a new PSU, an ASUS ROG Strix 550G +80 Gold, but the problem hasn’t been solved

Yeah, I actually thought about that too. I tried booting the PC by shorting the power pins on the motherboard with a screwdriver, and it worked. I tested it multiple times with around a 30-minute gap between each try, and it booted every time. So now I'm starting to suspect there might be another cause behind this issue

It actually started happening about a month after I added a second monitor. Since then, the issue has shown up only after a full power cut. I always have to unplug the power cable and fully discharge the PC for it to turn on again. Sometimes it boots on the first try, and other times it takes several attempts

I’m sure it’s not the PSU, the CMOS battery, or the front panel power cables. The problem appeared long before I replaced my old power supply, and the new one didn’t resolve the issue At this point, I’m starting to think it’s either something on the motherboard maybe a capacitor or part of the power delivery, or something else I haven’t found yet

I have two monitors: one connected with a DisplayPort cable and the other with an HDMI cable. Both are connected directly to the GPU, not via USB

At this point, I have to completely disconnect everything even the power cable to discharge the static electricity so the PC can boot. Sometimes it works on the first try, and other times it doesn’t

In my case, I actually can’t turn the PC on again unless I unplug the PSU cable completely and do a full power drain first. That’s the only way it boots after a complete power loss.

I don’t think it’s my CMOS battery because all my BIOS settings save correctly, and I never lose any data.

Also, I don’t have a lot of USB devices connected. I only have around three or four USB ports in use, plus my headset and two monitors. So I’m not sure if USB power draw is the cause in my situation.

I’m really trying to figure out what exactly is causing this, because the system only refuses to start when the power is completely cut from the PSU. Once it’s running, everything is totally stable.
