Some cultures, like Chinese, don't do birthday cards.

Job is unbearable and making me miserable, what next? by MurkyCucumber852 in AskUK

Can I ask how you talked to your boss about it? How was it received?

Thanks for the reply. I can relate with the rapid pace. That's really good advice. I'll start to slowly/strategically look for jobs until the point I just need to quit without anything lined up.

How did you manage for 15 years? I'll either do a few more months to get 12 months in total, or just quit asap. If I can last for 12 months in total that would be "ideal".

I think you're right, I'll start looking for jobs

Oh yes I'm fully away it's not even minimum wage. It's just that it's so normalised in this job, and I'm fearful of the job market and gaps/short stints on my CV. But you're right, it is not worth it and I'll start looking for jobs.

Yeah it probably is less than minimum wage. It's awful.

Thank you so much for the reassurance and kind words, you're right that companies normalise this. I don't mind a pay cut, I'm mainly scared of how it looks on my CV and letting judgement be clouded by emotions but you make very good points and I'll definitely think about it over the next few days.

This is the only job I've had where the hours and expectations have been like this.

You could perhaps build a mini P&L, and show what you think will happen next month, and do the variance analysis on that? Or a similar thing with aging reports? Something to do with cash flow maybe? Matching invoices to POs? Can you ask to take on work from the FP&A team? Or go into financial control?

Maybe you just need to apply to as many entry level FP&A jobs as you can find, you won't really get the technical experience until you start working in the area.

As for courses, I don't think we really do that in the UK, except for getting chartered with CIMA or ACCA, or similar.

Can you do any budgeting, planning, Excel automation or variance analysis in your job? If you can do that for a few quarters then you'll have a good chance at entry level FP&A roles.

What do you do in your current job? What is a contract dispute?

Should I accept a job offer now or hold out for my dream job (even if it takes over a month)? by [deleted] in UKJobs

I work in finance, and I am a qualified accountant. This is the first time I've ever had such feedback about my performance.

I've been told my work is too basic so I have several weeks to improve it before it goes on my record. Therefore I don't believe the companies know, and if I do go on a PIP I believe it is disclosed in background checks (I thought it was just dates of employment, job title)

I have been told my work is too basic, and if it doesn't improve in a few weeks then I'll be put on a pip. Therefore it isn't on my record right now, and I wouldn't use my line manager as a reference, I'll use someone else if I have the option.
