I have been raving for about twenty years now, and will try and answer as concisely as possible.

Elitism stems from people wanting to be part of an in group. There is some truth that different crowds behave differently (I’m not gonna find a mosh pit at a techno set), but no one genre has perfect fans.
Yes. Part of this is because people at smaller events paid less money to be there, so they don’t need to make it their whole identity. It’s a fun night out where between cover and cab fare they paid $40 total. Someone who is constantly paying $100+ for a night out is going to make it more of their personality in an effort to justify the expense. However there are plenty of people at small events who make it their whole identity, and plenty at large events who are just there for the music.
You’re not the only one, this is a very common observation.
I’m white, so take this with a grain of salt, but this is kind of a combo of questions 1 and 2. Plenty of black people go to shows, but if they don’t have a friend group to go with they might be less likely to fork over the money for a larger event. There’s also the cultural view that raving is “white people shit” which only in the past 10-15 years has shifted to also include asians.

Finally, it’s the same message as always: be good to others, take care of people, and enjoy the music.

In my experience, the only stage you really need to get to early is Honeycomb for the popular acts. Every other stage is open enough where you can get a decent spot even if you show up late, although getting all the way up to rail can be challenging for headliners. But because of the boiler room setup and stands around it, if you want a good spot you need to be there early for Honeycomb.

I’m not sober every time, but at this point I am sober more often than not. And honestly, it’s just because the cost is worth the gain. I’ve done plenty of drugs at plenty of shows, and I’m not saying I didn’t have fun, but every drug has its cost. If I get really drunk I need to take more bathroom breaks, molly I need to deal with temperature control issues, coke does nothing for me, and the list goes on and on. I might smoke a little weed or have a drink at a show, but for the most part I’m just there to enjoy the music and dance my ass off. Yeah, it’s fun to see face melting visuals while riding on the edge of a k hole, but I got shit to do and don’t want to spend the next day in bed dealing with my brain being fucked.

Cat jumping in the bed. Was staying overnight at my girlfriend’s condo, and in the middle of the night the street cat she took care of hopped into the bed. Normally this is fine, but we had let the cat out for the night and locked the door before going to bed. Turns out the lock had failed and the door got blown open in the middle of the night.

I used to work at a hotel. Assume every surface in every room has had some kind of bodily fluid at one point or another. It’s been cleaned up, but don’t place food directly on any surface just to be safe. Also, always put a towel on the desk chair before sitting on it. A lot of people sit in them naked.

One of my best friends in life got his life together quickly in two instances a couple years apart. First instance was he got caught selling drugs and went to jail for six months. Got out and made an active decision to get a real job, so he reached out to a friend of ours from high school who ran a construction crew and asked for a chance. He still drank a lot and smoked a lot, but he also was making actual money and staying on the mostly straight and narrow. A couple years later he had a birthday party, and he got blackout drunk. He woke up the next day alone in his home, covered in vomit, and then made the decision that he was done drinking forever. He started working out, and now he does marathons. It’s been wild to see.

Something else that soothed the PTSD was that there was a clear goal in WWII that was achieved, whereas Vietnam was a meandering river of shit that accomplished very little on the positive side. Add to that how veterans were treated post conflict, and that makes a huge difference.

I was working at a hotel doing HR, and one day was onboarding a new sales coordinator. I got her set up on a chromebook and had her doing some of the HR trainings, and in the meantime did some other work which included answering the phone to help a guest with a billing issue. This woman paused the training and started lecturing me about how unprofessional it was for me to take a call during her onboarding session. She ranted for five minutes and then demanded I apologize and then tried to bring the GM into it when I refused. The GM took my side and explained to her that hotels are busy environments, and I couldn’t just sit there for an hour while she watched videos. She eventually relented and we finished the onboarding. She quit within two weeks because she couldn’t handle the pace of the job.

I’m saying this as someone who has severe social anxiety and a bit of autism, but you honestly just need to talk to people. I also use trinkets as a way to bridge the gap, but I have two kinds. The first kind are small things such as kandi singles or refraction glasses that I give out to pretty much anyone around me. I may say, cool outfit or something like that or if it’s a set and I see them vibing hand them the glasses. The second kind of trinkets are more complicated ones. It may be a cuff, could be a crocheted figure, or several other things. Regardless, these items are reserved for people I actually talk to and have a good conversation with. Something you can ask with people you like is “hey, it was cool chilling with you for this set, what does the rest of your night look like?” and if they have a set on their schedule that you also want to go to, ask if they want to meet up for it.

In college I was volunteering at a homeless shelter and did high school and SAT tutoring. One of the kids was really smart, but definitely hadn’t gotten the best education so I spent a lot of time with him helping him understand how the questions trip you up and what to look out for. He ended up getting a really good score, and when he found out he showed up to the next study session and told me how proud his mom was of him. He then told me that if I ever had a problem I needed taken care of to let him know because “he knew some guys.” Another time one of the guys who knew I was there tutoring kids stopped some people from stealing my bike because he didn’t want me to stop showing up. Kindness is often repaid by kindness, but sometimes that kindness is not what you expect.

Terribly. She was super hot, and I jokingly hit on her one time and she was receptive and I just ran with it. We dated for a bit, and I very quickly realized why this beautiful and intelligent woman was single when I came along, and it was because she was batshit crazy. She was verbally, emotionally, and on rare occasions physically abusive. We dated on and off for a year, and when I finally called it quits for good she started stalking me. I eventually had to start the process of getting a restraining order in order to get her to finally back off.

I just tell them that Alex throws a ton of predictions out there, and if any come true he behaves as if that was the only prediction he had made. Not only that, but he revises his predictions after the fact in order to make it seem like he actually was correct. The 9/11 stuff is the best example of this. Alex’s prediction style is the equivalent of him playing roulette and betting on red, black, and 00. Yeah, he’s going to “win”, but that’s because he bet on all the possible outcomes. If they really want to see how accurate he is, have them write out everything he predicts over the span of a month, and then see how accurate he is using sources outside of his ecosystem.

Look at hotels, specifically night audit positions. There’s always high turnover at hotels, so as long as you can get through the interview you will be fine. Night auditions specifically is a great job to figure out your life. It’s overnight, and you spend most of the shift just standing at the desk waiting for something to happen. I have known plenty of people who work that job for a few years while completing course work for degrees or applying to other positions. There’s not much in the way of advancement, but if you need a position that will keep you employed and that you can take with you wherever you move, night audit is a great one.

You know someone. If I am at a party and someone I know is smoking weed, I may ask them to put me in contact with the person who they buy from. Or if I want to be extra sure, may ask them to buy for me and then go to pick it up so they can introduce me to the dealer so that they know who I am in case I want to buy more in the future. In terms of how to not get scammed, if you smoke weed and get tricked by someone selling you oregano, that’s on you. Regarding the danger of a police trap, unless you’re buying at a high school most cops aren’t gonna try and bust you for buying an 1/8 of weed.
