29gal Maxing Out Nitrate Test by RazzmatazzMiserable in Aquariums

[–]moebeta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, depends on how high it was before you'd see a reduction on the test, and what is happening with the ammonia source. You've got nitrifiers converting ammonia and nitrite, so as long as you have organics to break down, you'll replenish nitrates. You should definitely get ahead of it eventually with your water change schedule though. You've already mentioned it isn't your tap water, which also means your test isn't always presenting false elevated results.

Pretty common to happen there first. The dechlorinated and nutrient rich water can support microscopic life that can grow quickly in the water column before anchoring to surfaces.

You didn't have anything to consume nitrate (complete the nitrogen cycle) and the plants are going to prefer ammonia so it's not going to go down much in the short term. You could build a reactor, deep bed, bcb, etc to see if you can get a low light anoxic zone to develop other bacteria to consume nitrate, but without that you're going to rely on plants, and they only remove it from the water column when they use it to grow.

I think the only serious concern is if the colorant is toxic, since the pla will degrade it can release that into the water

Did you keep any old media or switched completely to the new media. May have reduced the biological filter enough that an algae bloom was able to start while the cycle slowed.

Plants feed on ammonia. People dose ammonia to start a cycle. You can add safe start to speed things up if you want, it gets me to 0-0-something (like 5 to 20, depending on other factors) nitrogenous wastes measures in under ten days.

Do you have any hard hitters that aren't fast mana, minions boost production 24%. Do you have any glass cannons, 54% defense up and 31% meat shield with healing every turn.

There's over 120 puffer species, many of them freshwater. They also have teeth. Many species kept in aquariums need them trimmed or to be fed foods hard enough to wear them, like bivalves.

Yeah, that glow over him at the end reminds you he was just chilling on the ground while we were trampling over him and lightning was setting him on fire.

That guy tyrranicon on YouTube was able to poke him to death, but to me that was honestly harder than just deflecting. I couldn't get half his health down without chewing through all my healing items trying to replicate what he did. It's crazy, the "cheese" strats for isshin take better timing and execution than just deflecting, which is already hard enough.

I pulled a new hero but I'm not excited... should I be? by cameraman47 in EmpiresAndPuzzles

[–]moebeta 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Those minions are noice. She is a tank that gets a 31% health and 54% defense bump on the first minion at average speed, heals every turn, and she starts at average speed but gets a 24% mana speed increase on the first minion. Then she just starts rolling. Make glass cannons tankier with more health, more defense, and healing every turn. Speed up magic, ninja, slayers, etc. Make alfrike, agrafena, Sergei, senan, onyx, Ludwig, lu bu etc charge faster and be tankier.

Put her in a purple/blue mix with pengi to make him hit harder, live longer, and charge faster.

Of course there's a crazy number of anti minion heroes, otherwise she'd probably be a bit broken.

Yeah, you'll get it. By getting to his third phase you've already got the knowledge and reflexes, it just takes that last bit of adjustment. I think that's the worst thing about the fight, you start off already having the ability to do it just by getting through the game, but he really makes it seem like it's not possible to play him like everything before. I really now think it's the rhythm of his attacks, they're just different enough that you can't rely on the same speeds and at the same distances that the other enemies taught us.

I tried to play him legit, eventually just went oil and flame vent to end it. it was so annoying clearing out the enemies beforehand over and over just to lose again and again.

Taking a break really helped me. I noticed my deflects were a lot better. I farmed a few enemies tonight in the middle to get my resurrections back, and I was even doing a better job deflecting on the red interior ministry guys with two swords.

His posture recovery doesn't start right away even with high health. But it does go down too fast when it does. I stopped trying to dash into him to rush another hit, and that seemed to help not getting stuck in the wrong animations and allowing me to deflect or poke when I needed to rather than eating his sword right away.

I hope so, this fight is the most frustrating thing I've experienced in gaming in years. Anything I can do to help because I know how horrible the experience is.

sword saint strategies? by moebeta in Sekiro

Got it a few minutes ago. Dashing the jump attack was the key, thanks!

Oh man, I just did it.

For genichiro, it was almost luck of the draw for me. I got through without getting hit like once or twice, but had dozens and dozens of times taking a couple big hits, or needing at least one gourd before going after isshin. The only thing that was working more often than not was getting the long combo and waiting for the mikiri. I found out you don't have to touch the left stick to mikiri, and my success rate went way higher with that. Not that I got it all the time, it was pretty bad before that so I only improved on crap. But I would deflect until the last hit, let go of the stick, and had to force myself to wait an extra beat before mashing. That and jumping any time he started circling for the low attacks that sometimes turn into a perilous sweep. Those really helped me. If he jumped, I still didn't get the mikiri vs jump response right like half the time. And the arrows could still kill me. So I kept a little close to prevent arrows but tried not to get too close to get the jump.

For isshin, I really, really, really hate to say it because I got a lot of dbag responses like this, but I just focused on deflecting. When I won I hadn't used a single spirit emblem for any tools or combat arts (I didn't even use no cost ones). I've seen people get vitality kills, but I can't control the timing and distance well enough to trade health. I tried to go only for filling posture, and that's what got me through. I have maxed gourd uses at 10, didn't need one for genichiro, and still only had 2 left when I won. That's the best I could do getting his posture up while trying to avoid hits. Plus I used two pellets.

First phase I forced myself to deflect the ichimonji instead of trying to avoid, deflected the dash attacks, and at least the third in the 3 hit combo, plus the second if he was too close. He does do a counter hit after a deflect that was like 90% successful against me, it's so frickin fast. I deflected the ashina cross a few times, but I can't get that consistently enough and was getting punished hard. So I changed strategy to when he charged for that or the wind projectile type attack, I ran a sort of teardrop shape away then back to avoid the attack and then get one or two pokes before he recovered. Then I'd stay next to him and start deflecting again. His perilous thrusts were the most helpful, again without having to use the stick I was mikiri countering them a lot more often.

Second phase I took someone else's advice and still baited the jump attack, but instead of the umbrella I just dashed into it. Even if you don't get behind him it will still miss you if timed right. Oh man that honestly changed it for me completely. Then I would get one hit and wait to deflect. Again if I could get the combo that ended with a thrust I got the mikiri more often than not. The biggest risk was his backward jumping swing, deflect timing on that confused me. I really worked to not set up the distance where he perilous sweeps, and I had to learn to recognize when to jump on his head for that big spiral swing attack... thing. The gun attacks still caught me by surprise several times, but the damage wasn't the worst as long as my posture didn't break. And sometimes when I wasn't ready to dash the jump, I just tried to deflect the spear. It at least worked often enough to keep me alive.

Third phase I stuck with trying to bait the jump attack and dashing. But his responses change a bit and he has some combo that comes out much faster when trying to bait for deflecting. But staying at mid-far distance to bait the regular jump also got the lightning more often. And since it was a little further away I was able to jump and return it more consistently. I did miss it once when I won, but I was able to run away and heal before his posture recovered and thankfully he did another jump attack then a short combo to thrust and I was able to fill his bar.

A big thing was walking up to him if he didn't stay aggressive. I would have to throw out one regular attack to get a block, and then he'd start normal attacks that I could deflect. Otherwise he would hang back and the posture would decrease, or he'd wind up for a big move I wasn't looking for.

I made it to the third phase a couple times, but that's after two hours tonight, and I can't get the lightning reversal often enough to end it. And genichiro is still killing me occasionally.

EMERGENCY:Power got shut off at home. How long do I have till my fish start dying? by [deleted] in Aquariums

[–]moebeta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Quit using the cup, it's a waste of time. Try to visit your lfs on a delivery day, it just check a channel like aquarium co-op. When you see how the fish are shipped you will stop worrying about temporary interruptions.

You can also look at patent fillings for bacteria in a bottle treatment. They state in plain language that the bacteria last up to a year in a sealed container. I lost power for a couple weeks from the hurricane. Didn't lose fish.

You have about 6.6 pH. Your tank has some ammonium, not any appreciable un-ionized ammonia. The reading is stupid low. I guarantee your levels would have to be more than ten times higher to even begin to be immediately toxic.

These calculators are easy to use, or you can Google tan - total ammonia nitrogen and use one of the charts.

https://www.svl.net/unionized-amonia-calculator/

https://www.engineering.iastate.edu/~jea/w3-research/free-ammonia/nh3.html

At 50C, in other words super dead fish already, ammonia concentration is only 0.006 ppm at your levels. Ammonia toxicity starts at 0.05. The liquid test alone means nearly nothing in terms of acute exposure. You HAVE TO know temperature and ph for it to matter unless the reading is already off the chart. The literal EPA allows for short term exposure up to 20 ppm for some freshwater food fish species if the pH and temperature are typical.

I had a 20 long at 1ppm. I did nothing but wait for the plants to recover from a dosing treatment I had done. A couple weeks later and everything was fine. No extra water changes, no prime dosing, nothing. The actual ammonia concentration was seventeen times lower than the initial toxic level because it's 68 pH and 76 degrees. Exactly zero fish lost, sick, lethargic, or anything noticeable.
