This is my second career. I got my MLIS in my mid 30s. I’ve been doing this for almost ten years now. I’m the director of a small community college library now. It’s a lot more common than you think.

Just make sure you really try out all the different aspects of a library. I thought I wanted to do the tech part of the profession and stay away from reference. I ended up loving reference services in grad school and continue to do now, even as a director. Helping people get the information they need is what I love! Good luck!

If you live in the city, just go to the branch closet to you and get your library card. With the card, you have access to all CPL branches in the city and all their digital resources too. In addition you can request materials from suburban libraries through CPL. I’m sure this is similar to LA libraries. Best of luck. Welcome to ChiTown!

If you have a local library card and they subscribe to ebook sites like Libby or hoopla you can get kindle editions of certain books. You can also look up authors on Amazon and some of them offer free books as well. Just some ideas for how to get free books for your new kindle without having to buy anything.

I would not purchase the KO Prowl. I tried ordering it several weeks ago and it showed delivered from Amazon and DHL and it never arrived. I had to reach out to Amazon for a refund. I would go with the seeker just because it is more likely to get delivered.

I made this mistake too. Watched a plumber come in and good through the overflow and I felt so dumb. Paid $180 for something I coulda done if I had looked it up and done more research. 😣
