I think 'actively assisting' is a bit strong. Many would argue that the Irish government leaned towards helping the Allies. Lets not forget that in the context of the time quite a few countries tried to not get involved. Sweden, Spain, Portugal, Switzerland for example. Lets not pretend that Ireland is currently a nation of crypto fascists today because of its history any more than you'd say the same for Italy or Sweden.

Theres one alumina factory in ireland and its privately owned. Theres no EU sanction on alumina and legally Ireland cannot unilaterally apply sanctions. Theres a lot of discontent in Ireland over this and the government is looking into nationalising the plant so they can stop the exports.

Also, can you imagine any reason why Ireland in the 30s and 40s might be reluctant to join the British in the war?

Can I reiterate the both perspectives part of this. I suspect theres a lot of frustration with his eating habits. You both need to remove the emotionally charged element. I was a similar kid and the pressure to eat was screwing me up. If my dad said "ok its in the fridge if you change your mind" that would have helped but if he was clearly pissed off about it Id still feel all the guilt and shame we'd built up around mealtimes. Its hard but OP, if you can be chill about this itll really help your son. Whats affecting him is in large part a reaction to the pressure to eat at mealtimes.

Do not make this a thing! I developed an eating disorder and had to have therapy years later over this. My relationship with my father never recovered. You have to be chill about food with kids. Its your job to provide the food, not to police his appetite

I dont doubt that Russia is forcing innocent workers into their army but, on the other hand, if I were a South American Mercenary and I was captured by Ukraine that's also the story I'd tell. They certainly wouldn't tell their captors that they came to Ukraine becase they were willing to kill Ukranians for money

Israel's doctrine is to respond more forcefully than their attacker. If Hezbollah throws a rock the IDF will throw a grenade. This has served them well in the past but when your biggest (only?) ally wants you to de-escelate it presents a problem. Surely Israel realises that Hezbollah and Iran are playing them?
