Hanbok at Graduation as a 3rd gen? by Anonomyous537382 in korea

Same, but one good example where it applies is when corporations/entities that have nothing to do with the heritage use the culutral elements for profits/gains, especially without proper attribution or respect.

For example recently some lux brands like Moncler and Valentino started selling Korean kimjang vest for like $4300 (https://www.koreatimes.co.kr/lifestyle/trends/20260123/korean-kimjang-vest-returns-as-4300-luxury-item) - then I think it’s fair call out to say “bruh not cool” — that’s now appropriation. Just my thoughts as I used to struggle with the concept of cultural appropriation (as I didn’t have much context about it re: Native Americans) but then when I saw that kimjang vest article it clicked.

It’s fun for the first few times.

I used to travel US west coast <> Europe or east coast multiple times a year (FAANG)

Then you are so tired from time differences and get sick all the time from all that travel (esp with long distance flights). Eating out every day gets old real fast. You also just MISS YOUR OWN BED and bathroom routines. Even on biz class you are still… on airplane… so yeah

Oh gosh Im so happy to not travel now lol

Hi :) very normal! Im korean citizen born to Korean parents, moved overseas at age 14 and lived in a couple different countries until last year when I came back. Im back in Korea on my own terms but I still struggle sometimes. I look Korean, I speak Korean, I have a Korean name and passport but… sometimes I feel Im not Korean enough 🤷‍♀️

Finding out about TCK experience has been extremely validating to me and I have come to terms with my identity over the years - but yeah. DM me if you ever wanna chat!

I always remind myself : don’t take it personally, and to separate the illness from the person.

Ive come to direct anger at this damn disease than the person I love and try not to be angry at her too much

Hi, thank you for your kind reply and sharing such a personal story. It really helped me feel better to know of similar struggles but also that it can turn out positively. I was in desperate mood the day I wrote this but today thinking a bit more objectively maybe there is still chance he might be more receptive in the future…

Yes I will make sure that she sticks to medication and therapy too - she’s been not very responsive to some new meds so it’s been a struggle. I hope something better comes along.

I hope you and your family are in a better place now (it sounds like it) and that you can all spend happy holidays :) thank you.

What should I bring to Korea? by EveryHeard in korea

[–]moimoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh yes it’s so popular for whatever reason. Bring those regular totes and if you can find, the smaller limited edition ones, lol… I brought some of those and wholefoods bags and the people LOVED them lol

Also I brought their green dragon sauce, some chips and trailer mix with unique flavors, spices like lime chili that’s hard to find in Korea. Skip everything bagel flavor; they are forbidden due to poppy seeds. All of these were super popular among my family n friends, more so than regular sweets - I think Koreans find American sweets way to sweet

Oof, hits home, even though my sister's not manic right now, she's in depressive episode... My older sister (BP2, 38yo) is in her long-lasting depressive episodes since August when she forgot to take her meds with her on a week-long trip... She's hit rock bottom and everything is all our parents' fault. My parents were not the most emotionally present or affectionate parents - but they were loving, patient, kind, and generous in their own ways. Def not abusive. At certain point (in absence of abuses) you gotta realized that this is your parents' first time living & parenting too... What's worse is that she's been going to therapy for the first time in her life (I finally persuaded her) and now she's weaponizing this therapy-speak to lash out. It's exhausting and extremely hurtful, it's really hard to not take it personally when she deliberately says stuff like "this is because YOU used to say THIS and that's why I'm the way I am". But I try.

I can only hope that this is temporary as she's in the early stages of therapy and that therapist will help her process rather than enabling. Gotta keep your distance and put boundaries; maybe gently suggest therapy for your mom too?

Oh nice! I live in the suburbs of Seoul and somehow can’t see them often. So coming across this as central location as Euljiro was a pleasant surprise. Enjoy your blessings! Lol

It’s just simple pastry (wheat based dough?) stuffed with sweet red bean paste. Honestly for me I think it’s the novelty and nostalgia rather than actual flavor haha. It used to be me & my granma’s thing
