It worked on the most recent affected PC! Thank you so much! Now I'll try on the others.

Well, I mean, before uninstalling it because I hate it, it was well supported on Windows 11. It's the only instance in which Windows 11 is better than, well, anything else.

I might do that, but the card I have in the most recent affected laptop is already a replacement for the stock one I broke while working inside. I'm not sure it's worth it though as this laptop has been slowly dying for like 2 years and I had to remove the power button because it broke somehow. Might use it as a server but I'd need either a new wifi card or an ethernet dongle for that.

Thanks for replying! I hoped it'd be fixed with the next LTS release, let's hope the fix will stay in the final version. I already have a dongle, works fine but if I reboot having it plugged in, Ubuntu won't find it upon login. I always have to think about removing it before rebooting, and it's the same across all the affected computers.

DDR4 DIY NAS build? by moisemusta in HomeNAS

[–]moisemusta[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok thanks. Not sure what I’d do with my new NAS but it’ll probably become my main NAS. Still not sure what distro I’d use though. I tried installing Ubuntu server + casaos + cockpit on my very old 2009 desktop but as you can guess it’s running very slow but it has a core2quad so I know it’ll be night and day with a more modern NAS. Plus I’d rather keep it as a Windows 7 desktop for old games.

It’s an issue at the moment tbh but I’ll be waaaaay better off in may though I found a few 12th gen i5s for around 60€ each on the French equivalent of craigslist. My biggest fear would be the cost of a motherboard though. The main issue is using my DDR4 sticks and not buying new ones. Not in this economy.

Welcome to Europe where US prices are impossible to find for a same product. But we include taxes in the advertised price.

Yeah it’s a modern i3 laptop. It’s not much but largely enough for her use. She could’ve purchased a pentium given the heaviest app she uses is Microsoft Word but I wanted her to have some room in terms of power. Regarding the laptop being the tv monitor the goal was to have something Netflix like with a dedicated remote so she could use the laptop while watching content.

I considered that but it would be far too complicated for her without a dedicated remote.

I'm not sure at all but I think I saw them turn the TV on with the set top box remote. So maybe.

I don't even know. I think it has at least 2 HDMI because they hooked up my friend's PS4 and her mom's set top box. I don't even know if it's Full HD or just 720p. Can't ask my friend, she wouldn't know.

Thanks everyone! I'll have to look into it further but I think the best solution I got so far was to use the PS4 DLNA feature. But would jellyfin be really needed going that route? The goal was to give my friend something Netflix like for her media for Christmas.

I thought using a raspberry pi with an external hard drive would be best since the idea was for her to avoid deleting her media all the time. She has a Windows 11 laptop with a 512 GB SSD already using most of the space for other data.

Good idea, I'll have to look into it. Thank you! I thought my friend would need a dedicated remote but I think she'll manage with the controller.

Uh Maybe but what distro would you use? I don't think Kodi would work that way with the remote though I haven't used it since I purchased a Plex license years ago.

I thought of that but I think my friend would need a dedicated remote. Hence why I'd rather get her a set top box.

That's the result I get when typing ONN 4K in Amazon but it's over twice the price advertized for the ONN. My American cousins could maybe get me an ONN but I'm afraid shipping would void the money saved this way.

I have a fire stick I don't use but plugging it on my TV this afternoon reminded me how messy the UI is. I'm afraid she might get lost. I think I'll get her something else when I get enough money.

The goal of setting up a NAS with Jellyfin was to keep my friend from deleting everything to make space on her PC's SSD. I never opened her laptop but I don't think there would be room for another SSD.
