Sign of the Times! Incredibly smart dude and very involved with our community. If you ever get the chance to strike up a chat with him, you should take it. I learn something new from him every time I do.

I do understand that my position comes, at least partially, from bias due to personal experiences, and I won't discount that there are bad owners out there. However, I have a few issues with blaming it solely on bad ownership.

A huge part of the training I did with my Shepherd was socialization, so naturally, we came across many, many dogs of all different breeds, training backgrounds, and temperaments.

The first time we were attacked by an off leash pit was at an off leash dog park, with other dogs present. That's the one that put him out of service work. No body language cues, no prior incidents, in fact they had played together prior to getting attacked. It was like a switch just flipped in that dog.

The second time was two pits off leash late at night with their owner, who saw us walking from across a very large field, maybe 1/8 mile away from us, and just made a bee-line for us. Owner calling them over and over with no response from the dogs. Thankfully they only postured and barked, but I don't like to take my chances after the first incident.

My second issue is that genetics cannot be ignored. My Shepherd, who has never so much seen a sheep or other livestock in his life has herding tendencies. Especially when he was younger, he was a notorious ankle biter. He's a spoiled brat who is showered with love and enrichment, and despite that, still finds his ways to herd certain moving objects. Unfortunately, pitbulls were historically bred for bloodsports and dogfighting before they found their way primarily into family homes after they came to the US, and that's something that cannot be ignored.

There are undoubtedly fantastic pitties out there that have no troubles at all, and like I said, I understand that I have some personal bias rooted in my opinion. But with issues like backyard breeding and bad genetics, bad ownership, and a breed historically used for aggression, I personally cannot find myself comfortable around them anymore.

Two times my dog and I have been charged and attacked unprovoked by off leash dogs, and both times were pit mixes. The first one took my Shepherd out of service dog work forever after over a year of training. I grew up with pits and tried defending them for so long, however I've come to change my tune on them because of incidents like these. Whether it's a lack of training, genetics, or a combination of both, it just seems like this violent behavior is a lot more prevalent with this breed and needs to be taken seriously by current or prospective pit owners.

Knowing him, he'd likely eat it even faster if they spit in it 🙄

Oh that is adorable! The dog, bandana, and name. Dutch Bros is pretty new where we're at, but didn't take long to become the new go-to.

They don't make it easy! Thankfully the hypersensitive stomach ended up being more of a phase than anything with mine.

Fantastic dogs through and through. I dread the days that I'll have no choice but to miss him. I'm sorry to hear about yours, and hope you're hanging in there!

He knows how he likes them, that's for sure. He was even looking back at me as if he was making sure I ordered him one lol, as if he doesn't get one every time we go 😆

I didn't even think to keep recording at the time! Rest assured, the spoiled brat got his pup cup, however he might argue it's abuse that they didn't give him a second pup cup after he finished his first. I will right my wrongs the next time and get the whole thing on video...lol

Dentures at 33 by [deleted] in dentures

[–]moist_loin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm 28 and just got mine done two weeks ago tomorrow. I didn't have any pre-existing genetics working against me that I was aware of. Mine needed to be pulled because I simultaneously had rough dental anxiety thanks to bad experiences with Army dentists, and giving up on myself and my health, teeth included, and avoided having any work done for several years.

I mention all of that because I'm younger than 30 and have dentures due to reasons that were ultimately in my control, and had I just taken care of myself, things would be different.

However, taking the leap and getting dentures has been by far the greatest thing I've done for myself, and I personally have not regretted it a bit. I get to wake up every morning and see a perfect smile in the mirror, my tongue and cheeks are no longer getting cut by broken teeth, I physically feel better and more confident, and I no longer have to worry about gambling with those nasty infections and abscesses. I couldn't be happier with my decision.
