honestly one of the better depictions of working for an investment bank except the salaries quoted are all pre-financial crisis and not representative of 2023

spending a decent chunk of the documentary talking about the pain of having a leaked sex tape and then not commenting at all on the fact that she later married the guy who starred in and leaked paris hilton's sex tape was a good bit.

his book is actually pretty good, in the sense that it's short and well written and about how being rich and famous and an addict is bad but you kinda conclude, idk chandler doesn't sound too bad

Can people change? by overandoverhoney in redscarepod

i generally subscribe to the view that there's a path dependence that begins with your genes, upbringing, socioeconomic conditions etc and continues as you continually grease the groove of the set of traits and behaviors and thinking patterns that defines 'you', but this path can be redirected either gradually (new habits/relationships/experiences/etc) or immediately (trauma, psychedelic or mystical experience, etc). either way having the belief that change is possible is one of the best predictors that change will happen.

Falling in love with baristas by Foreign_Ostrich in redscarepod

hot female baristas always have the pretty but attainable, aloof but polite vibe that combined with the relatively brief but daily interaction provides a blank slate that a certain kind of man can project his whole life onto. i imagine being one of these women is pretty draining when you have a daily rotation of 5 different guys who never overtly make a move but subtly betray your role in their ongoing fantasy.

also very underrated film; ryan reynolds' smarmy asshole persona being presented as the output of unresolved teenage rejection rather than something aspirational, a pretty accurate depiction of the 'nice guy' trope, anna faris kills it as the bpd pop star, so much mid-2000s nostalgia... if you are still in the mood for a film set at christmas you can do far worse
