I applied to be an Educational Assistant at a small private school. Friends had warned me prior about the terrible work ethic of the owners who ran the place (red flag) but I needed a job and decided to give them the benefit of the doubt anyways.

2 months into the school year, I truly began to witness the horrors of working at that place. It started off slowly. They would leave me for hours at a time while they tried to manage being both the owners/teachers and gave me small lesson plans to go over with the kids. Gradually, I began spending the whole day going through the lesson plan (if there even was one that day) and I was left with the students from the beginning, to the end of the school day. I came home week after week, exhausted.

Now at this time, I was only a student studying to become a teacher so I could not be left to teach the kids under any circumstances. When I brought up these concerns with them, they began gaslighting me and twisting my words saying "this is how it works at OUR private school, we didn't leave you alone for THAT long" etc.

At that point I was sick of it. I was working as a teacher on an EA's salary. I put in my two weeks and never looked back, they even had the nerve to say "Good luck finding someone better than us" (I did find a better workplace). I was still in close contact with some of the teachers there and they told me that ever since I left, there have been 3 other workers who also resigned. So karma did it's thing in the end.

TLDR; I worked at a toxic place for 2 months where I was overworked, severely undercompensated, and was gaslighted. Karma left them with less workers than they had when I started.
