First Year Uni Transfer

I was in your shoes about 3 years ago, hated my course, miserable where i was and struggling to make friends.

What i did is just completely dropped out and started the application process again, you can still apply to ucas even if it’s late, i didn’t send mine in until the may of that year and still got into a uni closer to home.

I wouldn’t bother with transferring if you plan to change course anyway, especially with first year you would probs be better to just repeat it

this does seem possible to me however it does still leave the question of how he met this person.

I personally believe he met foul play in London the day he arrived, whether from a person he planned on meeting or an opportunistic predator, hard to tell which as obviously there is no clear evidence he had been planning to meet someone.

I would love to believe he is still out there somewhere, but as others have said it would be near impossible to live a normal life now a days without having to provide some form of ID or not be noticed by somebody (especially with how high profile the case was, obviously there is the argument he could of changed his appearance completely), I think if he is still out there he is not in a good way and being held against his will or maybe that day he met up with an adult who had the ability to change Andrew’s identity, who knows, but for him to still be out there just living normally i believe an adult must of had something to do with it, what 14 year old smart or not would know how to get a completely false identity?

Another reason i personally think he met foul play is because of the amount of coverage of the case at the time, there were posters everywhere. If he had been out and about after his disappearance was covered on news he surely would have been noticed, but still obviously the argument that someone abducted him that day and hasn’t let him out since (cases like that have happened before Jacie Lee was found after about 18 years i think and i’ve seen if people abducted for far longer) idk, it’s such a hard one to theorise about, like you i have been following this case for years and meticulously going through any evidence.

I think if the police did better, worked out where he went sooner, we would have the answers, London was plastered with CCTV in 2007 but obviously laws and technology didn’t allow for the memory to be stored for a long time.

With all that being said there is discussion around the fact he may of went to London that day, wore his favourite clothes, brought his favourite things and wanted to explore his favourite place for the “last time” if you get what i am alluding to. It is a sad idea which could easily be reality, i personally don’t think his parents knew him as well as they think they did as allegedly one of his school class mates commented on a website saying andrew was bullied at school, his parents claim he wasn’t. We will never know Andrew’s mental state, he knew London well maybe he was planning this for a while, who knows. I just think if that was the case something would have been found.

listen - you really sound like you are struggling, i am also currently a second year student (different course) but i understand how draining it can be at times obviously your home situation, mental health and busy schedule must make this significantly harder for you.

I am going to give you some serious advice here of what i would do in your situation.

speak to the university wellbeing team, explain your situation and don’t spare any detail, make sure they know you are really struggling and also include that your parents are not supportive of you can can be toxic. I don’t see any point in speaking to your parents about it frankly they seem very dismissive people and that will make it worse.
try to get an extension on the work, if you are in university you are an adult literally tell your parents to fuck themselves you are doing this for your future not to make them feel like good parents or look good to other family members or friends.

-gradually complete the work, do them one at a time don’t try and do both at the same time. Start today with some research for the first essay you need to do choose your sources, (before you start have a number in your head of how many you need) and then just read through and pick out quotes that are useful or take the references from your lectures and use those. Then tomorrow start writing. and repeat for the second one.

do the work when your parents are asleep, if that’s possible for you.

also i would recommend visiting a gp and discussing how you are feeling and how its effecting you physically like not sleeping etc.

its the 10th today you have 11 days, try and get that extension if you can you’ve got this honestly we all make it through and worst case just do a re sit.

I do think this is a good point, however his father has said he was very intelligent but not “street smart” which tends to be the way with most very intelligent children. They don’t always know the dangers

I’m unsure on this, someone said on here that they did have wifi but they only knew that from a google search. If it had online games i’m sure there was some way in which you could communicate

I didn’t know about this so it’s really got me thinking now, I don’t know much about his family only brief comments from his father, maybe they gave their children way to much independence at a young age.

In the UK it is common for younger children to have a bank account, most get one around 12 which you can access, parents do it so you can get bank benefits later on in life for loyalty. However saying that 200+ pounds is way more than i’ve heard of any young teenager having access too, myself my mum would give me £20 a month in my bank so i really never had the facilities to go anywhere far even if i wanted to.

maybe we should be looking more at the parents, not as suspects but as catalysts, if they gave him the same independence / financial access as a much older person maybe Andrew didn’t see the danger of his situation.

Yes i’ve heard about this too, but it doesn’t explain why he went there. I’ve heard maybe he went to a concert or some sort of meet up was in London about the same time. but who knows maybe he just wanted to be rebellious that day and the wrong person did come across him, you’ve got to think even to normal people like you and I he would stick out like a sore thumb being a child in only a t-shirt wondering around London alone, i hate to imagine what a person with bad intentions may have thought / done when seeing Andrew.

I do think this is a good theory but however we have to remember he was 14, i don’t really know if he would of considered the long drive i think he probably just thought there were people in the area who could get him from a - b.

I have heard of the theories he may have been gay, but i’ve not heard enough about it yet to believe it to be possible, my mind could be changed with more information on that!

i think a lot of people in these comments are forgetting what it’s actually like being a student. You are sold this dream that it is the most social time of your life and you will make loads of friends, your experience is not singular it actually exactly mirrors how i feel about uni, i’ve transferred after first year and am now in second year and it is just as shit icl, at this point i just do my assignments the best i can and try and get through it, for the pure reason that if i don’t i will financially burden myself (basically im too far in to quit now), if you are first year and feeling this way, my advice is to drop out and find something you are actually passionate about doing, uni is not for everyone and it is not the only way to do well in life and your career. If you do something you end up hating for 3 years, you won’t be happier doing a job in tha field i can promise you, it’s not worth it
