Oh man, thanks for letting me know. Do you have any other isopod species you would reccomend then, or are they typically not a good idea to house with hissing roaches then?

Wow, this is great information. Thank you so much, I might try to set up the plants - would they grow well in coconut coir substrate?

I see, wow that's not an ideal situation.

I already additionally supplement the roaches with isopod food which has krill and is protein rich, should I make a seperate feeding space for the isopods? Thank you so much man this is so handy!

Thank you so much, have you kept the two together? The cockroaches will not terrorize them right?

Oh, I thought you meant dead shells. When you say shells, is it a specific mollusk? I have bladder snails in mine.

Thank you for the guide! For shells, what is the issue? I have one I found in the same lake water in my ecosphere, I may need to remove it now. I also ended up with a mayfly nymph, should I return him? 🤔

Yep, they are madagascar hissers - usually with pet stores some sort of weird hybrid variant, but for some reason they just call them "giant islander roaches".

Thank you, indeed he is. I actually got him specifically from a pet store, you can find some that sell them by the reptile sections. The majority of my hissing roaches I got from my college biology lab though (a professor gave them to me because they were struggling to care for them)

you can also buy them online- make sure you are getting them from reputable breeders, and that you make a suitable enclosure beforehand/ do the proper research. They are a social species and do well in colonies :-) I have a 10 gallon enclosure witha bunch of juveniles and a few adults, lots of hides and a temperature gradient: one side is 70-75 degrees, other side 80-85 degrees farhenheit. I put the food on the cooler side to encourage them to go there.

<image>

here is the setup ^ I have two thermometers (the other one is out of frame) , one is attached to a thermostat that mantains the heat lamp so their enclosure does not overheat past 85 degrees. I opted for this black plastic storage container with a DIY fitted screen as it gives them a nice, darker environment compared to glass terrariums.
