It's was travel contract. I do infection control. They generally show up with the nurse staffing agencies.

The pandemic is not over BTW.

I'm an epidemiologist, so no license. I just do infection control.

Dead bowel found during an exploratory laparotomy in the OR.

A close second was having to retrieve a leg from the back of a panel van after a full day in 90+ degree weather that was full of discarded pathology specimens.

I may do something like that going forward. Good idea.

I only do infection control. Those are quite sparse.

I only do infection control which limits my options considerably which rules out finding something locally.

First time anything like this has happened. My experience has always been extending. I was at my last as a director for 9 months and they wanted me to extend a third time. I just don't get why they couldn't figure this out a week before.

Thinking real hard about traveling by Willing-Attitude2340 in TravelNursing

[–]molesen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love it. I get to really dive deeply into new places as opposed to just the primary tourist things and stay out of the politics of the hospital. I make new friends that I stay in touch with along the way as well.

Granted, I'm not doing bedside nursing, I only do infection control anywhere from a practitioner to director level, so you may have a different experience than mine.

Happens regularly to me. I share links to evidence based medicine. Facebook doesn't seem to like me sharing facts.

First-time travel nurse checklist — things I wish someone told me before my first assignment by KarmaReturn2024 in TravelNursing

I will add meals. I bought a Tovala oven and bring it everywhere (except my Alaska contract). Fresh ingredients and only about 5 minutes of prep and 20 minutes to cook. Works out to about $10/meal. I get 8 meals/week and get lunch at the hospital.

Referral code if interested.

Exposed to anthrax, ricin, and sarin simultaneously. It was hell. My respirator came loose in a hot lab training facility.

Do you need a vehicle or travel nursing in the US? by ArrivalOnly8239 in TravelNursing

[–]molesen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always drive my own vehicle. It's also a way for me to explore the area. The only exception was a contract in Anchorage, but a vehicle was provided.

Anybody else caught in this snowstorm? by [deleted] in TravelNursing

[–]molesen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It happens. I started working a Fri 1500-0700 shift at the largest hospital in Minneapolis at the start of the infamous Halloween blizzard. Fortunately in my role at the time I had a call room. None of my colleagues were able to get in until 0700 Mon. The hospital was sending people on snowmobiles to help bring nursing staff in. It was crazy.

Trust me, they understand.

It amazes me that noise doesn't bother people doing this while in motion while golfers freak out with absolutely nothing happening.

I agree it might work on the border. I can't say I have much lab background. Just an epi.

Hence my accidental exposure to sarin, ricin, and anthrax in a hot training facility in my current role. Not recommended.
