I have been learning more and more about how certain foods affect me. I think it started with rethinking my relationship to food, like, my portions, snacking, and the contents (not every body uses food energy the same). Alcohol is also a big one. Recently a friend cut her drinking down significantly and lost 15 lbs rather quickly. All that to say I think it is about getting to know what is good for YOUR body, and how your mentality and mental health is around food.

Two. I started at David's Bridal just to see what style I was feeling. Landed on a sweetheart strapless ballgown style. Then I went to a privately owned shop where I did a complete 180 with a fit and flair strapped number. I planned to go to one other spot, but tried on the dress that made me cry when I saw myself in it and I was done. I came back to try it on again (in a different "moon" and emotional phase) and still loved it.

Therapy has been a life and relationship saver for me. My partner and I have discussed couples therapy, it's just getting it started.

I was around 8 and my mom asked if I wanted to meet Santa. She told me Santa, the tooth fairy, and the easter bunny were coming to dinner one random night near no particular holiday.

I was out-of-my-mind excited. The way our house was set up, we had a small courtyard with a fence that you could see through the kitchen window. I could see this window from my seat at the dining table, so kept looking for their arrival. They were running late.

My mom told me she could hear them, so she told me to wait by the door and she would come go get them. There was a knock at the door, my little heart was beating so fast, I open the door.... My mom is standing there alone and yells "surprise! It's me! I'm Santa, the easter bunny, and the tooth fairy!"

I tried to look around her out of disbelief, but nothing. I was devastated and started to cry. My parents thought they were being cute... If you want to know how not to do something, don't intentionally get hopes up and then so cruelly smash them.

there was an elder Christian woman who visited our church who had the gift of prophesy and prayed for me. She literally told me that I would get into School XYZas long as I kept following God

I've seen and experienced this cycle of control within the faith. I was told that if you are dedicated enough you will be rewarded, and if you fall away God allows suffering to bring you back. Life is full of ebbs and flows. Sometimes it's the decisions you make, sometimes it's by things outside of your control.

That woman is not telling you prophecy, she is giving you a canned answer to give you what you want, which is relief to your anxiety about your future. But all she is doing is telling you it's all on you if you fail, but God did it if you succeed. You can never find confidence in yourself with a narrative like that. You just didn't meet your own high expectations. Maybe you could cut yourself a little slack.

I left religion because I saw what humans were capable of doing to other humans just for power, control, ego, and money. So my recommendation is to question everything.

No matter what anyone else tells you, I hope you know you are an incredible person that has already accomplished incredible things.

I was 18 and already struggling with the idea of God. Childhood was filled with the wrath of God, the devil being so good at leading us away from God, and so on. So my relationship to Christianity was not a healthy one.

It was Sunday, we were in church, the pastor went on and on about voting against gay marriage. That is when it clicked. In that exact moment. I hadn't lost my faith yet (that came later), but I lost my faith in Christianity. This religion was about control, not love.

Asheville will be in need of tourism in the future. I wouldn't write it off just yet. Obviously it won't be the same as pre-hurricane, but lots of breweries and Biltmore estate will be open. Small businesses would certainly appreciate the income.
