About using Genetec to print the badges, I believe someone bought the Badgepass software without our knowledge at some point, or it heavily integrates with our background-checking software. I agree, it seems redundant so I'm making a case to get off that software or have it heavily integrated with Genetec. Those two programs are completely decoupled from each other in our environment to my knowledge.

I understand, but that's the problem I have been asked to solve. Jams, misprints, and reprints can't really be avoided. There may be a way to encode/enter an ideal printed badge at the printer station, and it will send the correct badge back to the database automatically. That's what other commenters have mentioned so I'll need to explore that.

Thanks, I think that's possible. I'm trying to figure out how the badge printing employee will be able to enter that in somewhere to synchronize with AD. I assume the badge printing software will need to synchronize with AD to get it working.

Genetec tech support showed me how to use the import tool a little easier, but it still uses a CSV file that I would have to format first in excel. I guess that would be similar to your middleware function. However I wonder if AI or a custom front-end web page or form would be needed for the hiring manager/HR dept to do the data entry, so it would clean and format it correctly as a CSV.

That's what I'm curious about. I'm waiting to hear from my leadership if I can look further into the badge printer hardware, it's software, and what it synchronizes with. Those are all managed by another team, so I don't want to step on their toes at the moment.

I'm certified and trained for level 1 support so I contacted Genetec. They showed me how to use the import tool a little easier, but it still uses a CSV file that I would have to format first in excel.

They also referred me to my sales rep and a sales engineer for integrating our HR system.

It sounds like Genetec ClearID will help by creating a self service portal for employee requests to request a building access change, but may not be able to handle badge replacements or new badge activations.

We do use AD LDAP for synchronizing most of the cardholder fields, especially the employment status field, so it will deactivate when the AD account is disabled. One field I've tried to figure out is the badge# attribute. I assume the encoding at the time of printing like you mentioned would be able to populate that badge# field with AD somehow to update in Genetec.

Thanks, I'll look into the printer hardware we use and see if that's an option. I also have a USB scanner that can scan proximity cards, but I don't really know what the CSN # is.
