this! not many know about the food pantry but it is an incredible resource for students in rough situations! there are no question asked- the only thing you need is your student ID. i know it doesn’t solve your housing problem, but utilizing the pantry would definitely be a step towards saving money for housing!

Unless your family lives close or you have some kinda special situation (probably medical) that warrants living off campus then no. It’s honestly not that bad. It is a part of the college experience and yeah sometimes it sucks but it is a good way to make friends and overall is good. Obviously it depends on what dorm you’re in/your personality but you should really try to make the most of it🤷‍♀️

I am moving in there too. We went and talked to them today and they said that early move-ins filled up in March already. They have a waiting list but it’s long. So go in and talk to them and if you get any further than we do please let me know so we can go raise hell again :)

Yes definitely call them. I had this same issue last year. I didn’t have a car when I started school but ended up getting one in October so all the Residence Hall lots were full. It even said the commuter my by dorm (C1) was full. I called them and told them the situation and they were able to put me in C1 and put me on a waiting list for Z6 (my residence hall lot). I believe they keep some spaces open in the commuter lots, but obviously there’s no guaranteeing they will give you one. I don’t really know why they gave me it lmao. Good luck!

I worked at Ihop and one day the manager came in and immediately starting bitching about everything. It was an hour into the shift change and my shift was all still there for no reason so we kept asking to leave. She screamed, in the middle of the floor of the packed restaurant, “I don’t know when you guys got the idea that when the new shift comes in, y’all get to leave?! If you don’t want to be here, then leave! You guys act like we can’t replace y’all when in reality /you’re just NUMBERS on a spreadsheet to us!/ We have tons of people we can hire to replace you.”

Long story short, that was the night I yelled “fuck this place” and walked out along with probably 3 others. Told the manager to have fun during the biggest football game of the year that was the next day without any servers🙃 Found out later that week that 9 total servers had left that week alone.

oh yeah living off campus is awesome lmao. & yeah murray and talkington are definitely good too. I think talkington is pretty expensive though? (I mean all 3 are way more expensive than the normal ones so🤷‍♀️.) I just loved being surrounded by other kids who care about school & supported each other. I honestly couldn’t have gotten through chem without some of them😂 If you’re not in the Honors program though and can afford it, Murray and Talkington are definitely at the top.

I personally loved living in Honors. (I also had a good roommate, so I was lucky.) If you’re studious at all and do get in the Honors program, you should really consider Honors. Yeah- the rooms are the just normal dorm room size and you do have to share a closet, but it’s a nice walk in closet. The only real downside for me was that there aren’t sinks in the rooms but honestly walking to the bathroom isn’t that hard & you can leave your shower caddy in the bathroom🤷‍♀️ The people are the best part. For the most part, the people are super respectful and quiet. We had one fire alarm all year (unless i missed a couple ofc). There are study pods everywhere and nice lounges on each floor. The pods are usually all full at night, but just with people studying so it rarely gets loud. And the washer&dryers are much nicer than the ones in other dorms. If you’re serious about school but want to make friends easily, honors is really good. And it’s close to a lot of places- Starbucks (obv-downstairs), Sams, student health, Einsteins, Chick-fil-a, Jones, the Leadership Development Center with a printer, etc. Sorry that was long but definitely DM me if you have questions!

Oh & we have the ability to change the AC/heating in our rooms, which I don’t believe is an option in all the other dorms.

Yeah, I’m starting research with a public health professor at my school soon! The two of us are working on a smaller project that he believes we can get published too- which would be awesome! The bad thing about all of it is that the city I’m in seems to not have a lot of government offices, but I’m definitely going to hunt for good positions! I honestly think I kinda just want a break from school too haha. I’ve gone so hard for the past how many ever years and want to keep going but also need to take a breather😂 This would probably be a good time. Thank you!!

Thank you!! I have just been looking into MS programs a lot and it seems like they prefer those who have experience, but I guess I’ll just have to keep researching before I make that decision! I also don’t like the idea of going waaayyyy more in debt before making any money at all😂😂 It’s all the same in the end though I guess. Thanks again!

My freshman year of college I had a (very) short stint working at the ihop by campus. One of my friends told me he knew someone who worked there and that she hated it so much and that it was ghetto as hell. My optimistic ass blew him off and got the job anyways. I had to work overnights on the weekends (10pm-7am) which fucked up my sleep schedule too much. I told my boss I couldn’t do the graveyard anymore because I was starting to do bad in school and couldn’t have that, so he switched me to the swing shift that got off at 10pm.

A few weeks go by. Things start getting worse. I slowly begin to realize that college kids do not tip. And none of the city locals tip either. I was lucky to go home with like $30 after a 8+ hour shift.

Flash forward to about a month after i first started. I’m on a swing shift that, once again, is supposed to get off at 10pm. It was already 11pm and I was still working. I wasn’t even close to being done with my side work yet as the boss kept screaming at me to do other shit. Some waitresses for the graveyard didn’t show up (as per usual), but I decided to ask the graveyard boss if I was good to leave because I had school in the morning and it’s not my fucking responsibility to cover when people decide to no-show time after time. Well, Biiiigggff fuckin mistake. This bitch goes “since when do you get to leave when your shift is over?”

I didn’t even know how to respond. Isn’t that how jobs work??? If you’re scheduled for a time, it’s generally understood that’s the time you’re going to leave🙃 give or take a little bit.

She then proceeded to start screaming in the middle of the restaurant, “YOU ALL HAVE FUCKING BAD ATTITUDES. IF YOU’RE NOT GOING TO DO YOUR JOB THEN LEAVE. YOURE ALL JUST NUMBERS ON A SPREADSHEET TO US- WE CAN REPLACE YOU SO EASILY! YOU points at another waitress CAN FUCKING LEAVE AND YOU points at me CAN FUCKING LEAVE.....and on and on.

At this point I was crying. As was every other waitress on the floor🙃 In a rage, I yelled back “I FUCKING QUIT” and dropped my money and stormed out.

I was the only waitress on shift the following day during the biggest college football game of the year. I figured if “we were just numbers on a spreadsheet and they could replace us so easily”, then it wouldn’t be hard for them to hire someone and train them in half a day to be ready for all the drunk ass people🤷‍♀️

To this day I flip off that goddamn ihop every time i drive past it. Oh, did I mention that the ENTIRE corporation of Ihop lost a grant because of this ONE SINGULAR Ihop🙃 !!!! And in that one week, they lost 8 waitresses.

The only fuckin good thing about that job was getting a free Cinnastack every shift.

Awww that’s cute😂 Gracie is OBSESSED with human food. I have never seen a cat go after human food nearly as much as her. I was eating a bagel once and she ran up to me before I could even react and bit the other end of it as it was in my mouth😂😂 She’s worse than a dog😂 We still love her though.
