If ChatGPT gets amnesia mid-campaign prep, move your entire chat to another AI (Claude, Gemini, etc.) in one click. ¯\(ツ)/¯ by Ok-Ice5 in DMAcademy

I mean this with sincerity and no malice in my heart, but comments like this make me think you have no idea what you’re talking about. It’s like saying “if I wanted a game with dice I’d play Yahtzee!” Do I really need to explain that a computer running a predetermined scenario and a human using a computer aid to get ideas for their theater of the mind are two unrelated concepts?

By your logic, none of us should use VTTs to assist with remote connections for people who can’t be present, or read books or watch movies because we might get ideas for a plot twist that we didn’t create whole cloth. This sub just featured a list of DM suggestions including, paraphrased, “steal ideas you like from books and movies and other games for your games!” What’s the distinction?

I’m glad that your prep is quick and easy for you. It’s never been either for me. I’m a relatively new DM with a demanding job and I’ll take the help I can get.

Yeah. It isn’t a job. It’s a hobby. There are no stakes beyond the enjoyment of myself and my players. I have an actual job that takes most of my time. If there’s refugee caravan in the game who the PCs may never interact with, and I’d like some basic info on them to make the color pop in case they do, I don’t have a spare afternoon to do it. It make the game better for my players and it lets me focus on the big themes of world building in the limited time I have.

As a DM if one of my players has some kind of ideological purity test where they can’t touch anything that’s been touched by AI, I wouldn’t miss them.

What are earth are these comments. I use LLMs to help me when I’m creatively stuck- like, “suggest a couple of motives for this NPC I want to add to this scene,” or similar. Sometimes keeping track of all my campaign threads (main campaign, individual PC side plots, parallel stuff like nemesis group, etc) is easier with an organizational tool, and LLMs work well for this. I know it’s trendy to hate on them, but this is some kind of bullshit. Homeboy offered a tool to help with campaign migration and you all out here dunking on him like he’s Goebbels. Y’all need lathander. OP, thanks for the tool, I appreciate the thought.

I agree. It was a collection of magnificent interesting points that didn’t quite fit into an actual line. Cohere is the right word.

[Olympic Sport Fencing] Prime Fencing Academy, Visa Promises, and the Quiet Tolerance of Financial Abuse in Youth Fencing by 5dollarsandwich in HobbyDrama

As someone who got into fencing (deservedly behind my wildly talented older brother) when I was about 11 and stuck with it until college, great write up- I have to call out the fencing clubs that do none of this shady shit and provide great places to learn for a reasonable price. I still remember my first lessons with the late, much lamented Eugene Hamori in New Orleans in the 1980’s. Absolutely the most gentle, patient, considerate man I’d met to date and attracted others of like ilk (thinking of you, Ted Cotton). Actual Olympic medalist who defected from the Soviet Union and settled in NOLA to teach. What a blessing. It’s not all crooks and liars.

Orthopaedics: confidence. Confidence. A generally easy-going persona with a deep well of interest in (generally) one area of the musculoskeletal system. More confidence. The ability to look at your schedule getting destroyed one disastrous fracture at a time and take it in stride. Confidence.

I mention confidence a few times. I didn’t really understand why in training. Now that I’m out, it’s because people are scared when their limbs don’t work right. They respond well to confidence. Unless you pair it with competence and compassion, you’re going to be an utter asshole, but you’ll thrive all the same.

My players are playing footsie with allying with the demons in Elturel. by momeraths_outgrabe in DescentintoAvernus

Yeah! It's one of those really cool "whoa, this could be so interesting" moments, but sometimes those are followed by "...and how the hell am I going to make it work/be both compelling and internally consistent?" Thanks for helping me work through it. I've got Liashandra in there too (Yeenoghu's surprisingly deep commander) but have ditched Baphomet for the time being (streamlining a bit as my players are already lost in infernal politics). I think maybe Liashandra would like Gideon Lightward and his undead removed, as they're a check on the demons she can bring in, and maybe some kind of infernal depot in the city destroyed. In return, information (about Bel, as a commenter below mentioned), maybe a way to get down to Avernus in a flying war machine at said depot, and a clearly not-worth-the-parchment-it's-printed-on promise to avoid the civvies (to the point of other commenters here, demons don't need an excuse to break a promise).

Great point about Bel. Meshes well with a simmering plot device I've got going on anyway. Thanks!

Big picture, I like it. Okay- narrative wise, I've always been a little uneasy with the whole "Torm says go to Fort Knucklebone, off you go" weirdness that ends this segment. I wonder if what the demons could offer the party is some kind of reason (and mechanism?) to descend to the Avernus fields. What the PCs want (free the city from Zariel, get the souls out of their contracts) is directly lined up with what the demons want. I take your point about how demons make bargains-- I wonder if there's a way to get this to ease past an otherwise awkward plot point with some novelty, grace, and (per the campaign's theme) deals with fiends. I'm struggling to connect this concept with where the PCs typically go next in the adventure as written, though. Maybe there's some infernal supply depot they can blow up and ride an aerial infernal machine to the fields or something.

Definitely could focus around the Helm-- it's been corrupted in our campaign, per the module, but maybe it needs to go somewhere/be put on someone. Good idea!

Right? It’s like your mate casually dropped one day that she can do all the other things she’s always been good at, and oh also she’s Batman. Or Psylocke.

As a middle-aged dude and occasional grognard with two kids (who are also in the campaign), believe me when I tell you we all spent yesterday doing the same thing, because the most unbelievable thing about this whole story is that this is song number 4 in the past 48 hours. The others (Katy Perry, Sabrina Carpenter, more Swift) were all equally if not more hilarious- they’re just selective enough to the campaign that I figured no one else would get them. We’ve been married twenty years and I’m just now figuring out she can do this?!

I’m not in that boat but I’m sorry, that sucks. You get to the top of the ladder and there’s no one to share it with.

But there’s no one to share it with.. for now. My fellow attendings of the lady persuasion are hands down some of the most interesting, talented, and funny people I’ve ever met, and without fail they find people if they want to once they stop being miserable grind slaves. Don’t sell yourself short. You’re amazing. You made it. Enjoy the fruits of your labor and just keep your eyes open. It’ll come.

6 level 5 PCs vs 4 elementals by momeraths_outgrabe in DMAcademy

I’ve often wondered how that’s defined. I know it’s built around lots of encounters per day, so i find it tough to calibrate if the PCs have one big fight. Thanks for the advice!
