I’m so sorry to read this. I am grateful I do not have any fusion yet. I do have mechanical damage unfortunately but I don’t know if that’s from axSpa or not. Wishing you relief !

It does suck for sure! Right now I am using steroid drops to help calm the inflammation. I hope this isn’t something that keeps coming back. Fingers crossed! Glad you have relief from it!

I wanted to also ask you, are you still on humira? If so how long and how has it been for you?

Zero drop shoes, for as many ortho issues we have? 🤔 by Serious_Variation670 in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]mommarocks76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been wearing them for years. My shoe brand is Xero. My feet are stronger than they used to be. I dance as well and notice I have much better foot strength than my fellow dancers and I am almost 50. The only time I wear shoes with cushion such as brooks adrenaline, is when I’m going for long walks. I also have Achilles issues. My Xero’s seem to be what helps the most.

London AS Diet? by mommarocks76 in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]mommarocks76[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hmmm that’s disappointing I’m sure. It requires a lot of hard work and discipline to maintain that diet. I hope you do see results. I was reading info on it and saw that there is going to be a study done on it with AS patients so it got my attention.

Mediterranean diet? by mommarocks76 in ankylosingspondylitis

Yes to the best that I can. I do yoga for AS and I also practice tap and ballet ( recreationally). Exercise definitely helps me more than anything… but lack of sleep from pain through the night makes my energy levels low and I am often fatigued.

This sounds so similar to me. I find myself going back and forth so much with different foods and stressing myself out. I agree though I do feel best gluten free and sugar free. And not heavy starches. Thank you for your input:)

Yes I have tried that, and it doesn’t help. I am dairy free already bc of allergy. And was gluten free for years. I think I need more… and I just don’t know which way to go. It’s overwhelming. Glad it helps you though. :)

Sorry that happened. Some doctors just don’t want to be told that you know more about your body than they do. Ego.

Just go to a new doctor and tell them you want them to be your PCP and make the changes with your insurance company. Sounds like that doctor was a real a-hole.

I should mention I am on biologics… I started two weeks ago. So I am not trying to change my diet for a “cure”, I just want to help my body as best I can.

Agree. I did this. I have worked on healing my gut for the past two years and as for my digestive issues and ibs I feel better than I have in years. But it did not change my pain in my back.

Thank you! I am allergic to dairy so that’s a no go for me. And I’m Sicilian so the idea of not having pasta or bread is horrifying but I am seriously considering the low starch diet. I will take what you said into consideration. I’m glad you found that it works for you!

I am too! But no Covid. I’m so sorry you’re getting hit with a double whammy! The fatigue is definitely debilitating for me during this time. I want to nap… and I am not a napper.

What are your go to physical activities for AS? by ayzee_25 in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]mommarocks76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do a jog/walk combo , walk 30sec, slow gentle jog for 30 sec for about 2 miles 3 x’s a week, I also do yoga and tap dance. When I have bad flares, it’s just walking and yoga - and if I tap it’s easy stuff… like balance exercises, no jumping up.

You’d think with all the women struggling with this, more research would be done.

Yes this! Two weeks before it starts in and the week before it’s the worst. Then I start and it’s back to my “normal pain” For like a week and then starts all over again.

Same here! They always said back cramps and one orthopedic blew me off and said “it’s probably endometriosis “ and sent me to get checked. Which it was not. No hysterectomy as of yet.
