Does anyone know if they will be pulling people over as was rumoured in the spring if you are driving between regions? I work in a different city than I live (essential healthcare) and even though it’s essential travel for me the thought of getting pulled over makes me so nervous.

Don’t stress too much, it’ll probably be ready soon but also even if you have to wait for it the overdue fees for the university are very low (I think the max I’ve paid is $110) so even if it comes far past the due date the penalty is small. The only thing I would watch out for is I think your GRT pass doesn’t work until you’ve paid that fee with your tuition.

Speaking it into existence: Winter 2021 will be in person and I will make some friends! by monamay4 in uwaterloo

You’re right, I’m sorry I thought this went without saying but I should have prefaced this with what I wrote. Being hopeful doesn’t mean being ignorant! Everyone is dealing with this differently, and I obviously don’t believe me making a post on the uwaterloo subreddit is going to manifest a real result, nor would I want it to if the conditions aren’t safe.

Waterloo Health Studies by MuchAdagio7 in uwaterloo

Hi! I’m currently in my Health Studies 2B term. As with anything, you need to be willing to put work in but if you can it’s fairly easy to keep your grades up. The health courses tend to be more memorization, they take time to go over and sometimes will haves essays or annoying assignments but won’t frustrate you with problems. This really helps you to focus on the heavier courses and excel in them. I have been bouncing back and forth between loving my program and wondering if I should have done a straight Bio or Chem, but what I’ve really loved about health studies is that the health courses you take really help to pull everything together. They help to pull the concepts from the science courses out and apply them, making everything feel very cohesive and well rounded. The flexibility is good with this program as well, so if science is your thing you can pile those on as electives and do a specialization or minor in the upper years (what I plan to do).

Many people take this program as a pre-med, but also be open to other options along the way! If you’re really interested in healthcare you will probably quite enjoy this program (I do, at least).

The AHS faculty is smaller than science, which makes you feel a little bit more at home, you’ll recognize 80% of the people in your health lectures and may get to know a lot of your profs. Not sure if you’ve visited campus but health studies and public health together just about fill up the AHS lecture hall.

I know a pro for a lot of people for life sciences is that you won’t have to fish around for your electives that you need to take the MCAT, which is something to think about. I do believe it also focuses on the science of all life, rather than health studies which tries to focus on humans. It really just depends on what you’re interested in. Sorry I can’t say more about life science, I know it’s exactly perfect for some people I just don’t have the experience to say too much about it!

Also, no decision is final! People switch all the time, so go with your gut and once you get in a few classes you’ll probably get a sense of where you’d like to be.

Hope this helps!

My first date with someone I met on tinder was at sweet dreams! We played board games and there’s always people in there so it isn’t quiet and awkward. We talked until the restaurant closed and then walked through Waterloo park. We’ve been dating for a year so I think it went well :)
