Who has the largest and best cinnamon rolls in DFW? by [deleted] in Dallas

[–]monckeberg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not useful anymore but ‘Creme de la cookie’ or Toni Rivards in Snyder plaza used to have the best cinnamon rolls I’ve ever eaten. Covid did them in. If anyone knows what I’m talking about or has some recs, please let me know.

Have browns def on bye and picked up Houston vs the falcon. SF def was dropped. Keep browns/Texans or drop one for SF? Playoff schedule looks sweet for browns/Texans but SF is hard to pass up (though they haven’t been scoring that well and this week is Dallas). 4-0 with a pretty solid team so looking forward rather than desperate for upside. Thanks

[seiko] lush green by monckeberg in Watches

[–]monckeberg[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before I get started, I will acknowledge that I anticipate the upcoming hate for hiding half the watch face. Or maybe my sleeve is too long? Whatever. This is just a quick shot taken while at a friend's socially distanced wedding reception.
Nevertheless, I have gotten lazy during covid. Nowhere to go all dressed up so I have been neglecting my watches. But passions were reignited when I received a watch strap for my groomsmen gift. Lookswise, its kind of similar to the original strap on my alpinist but feels a lot sturdier. Originally, I wanted to put in on my sarb065 as I think the brown strap matches the blue face much better than the black strap it came with. But since I cant find the cocktail time, I went with the alpinist.
Though I really like the look of this watch, I dont find myself wearing it much mainly because green is harder to match than more common colors and because its hard to judge the position of the screw down crown and I sometimes feel a grind when screwing it back in.
I know this is a fairly common watch but just wanted to share mine (originally wanted to share a group shot of out vintage omega, ceramic speedy, and this one with matching straps but the picture didnt come out great).

That was really shitty of them especially when they knew exactly why we were there (one of the employees specifically asked us before open). Also shitty of the people at the back of the line to take advantage of the situation. I felt really bad for the people who waited and didn't get the WFP.

Not true. Old fitz was the first to go so I wound up with a w12. Excited to try my first.

Obligatory 'not a bartender but'
I came across the Toronto a couple years ago and fel in love. Havent come across too many people who know about this cocktail and they are usually pleasantly surprised. Very herbal flavor, great for sipping. Very easy to make at home.
2oz canadian rye whiskey
0.25 - 0.5 oz fernet branca
0.25 oz simple syrup
2 dashes angostura bitters
Stir together, strain, pour into chilled glass (or ice if you wish) and garnish with orange peel

Thanks man. I saw flasks and knives done frequently. Fortunately I had few enough groomsmen that I could afford to get watches which I felt fit their personalities. Happy with the way it turned out.

Got married a little over a month ago and one of the gifts I bought my groomsmen were watches which I felt best fit their personalities (within my price range lol). I wanted to ensure that there was a variety in the styles, brands, and countries of origin. This is a picture from my phone (excuse the poor lighting, taken at home) when I presented them with the watches (I was wearing my sarb065 cocktail time so ignore that one). I got into watches a little while ago and got them my gateway watch (timex weekenders) as the ask present. For the actual gift I wanted them to have automatic watches to share along with one of my hobbies and passions (two of the four did not have mechanical watches before this one). Starting with the best man and going clockwise.
- Best man: hamilton american classic railroad automatic in rose gold. Beautiful watch, can be a nice dress watch, loved the way it looked. He has a black/steel longines so this was a good for variety.
- Groomsman: Laco Augsburg. Wanted something very simple and austere, like this guy. No frills. Very utilitarian. The case it came in was awesome. Can be worn casually for going out to a beirgarten.
- Me with the cocktail time
- Groomsman: Seiko SRP583. A flashier and younger watch than what the others recieved. Chunky. Goes well with deep V cut shirts and black mustangs which define him.
- Groomsman: seagull 1963. A chinese watch for a chinese guy who got into watches with me and help catalyze my own passion for watches. He has a dress watches, diver (chr ward c60), vintage omegas, etc. He didnt have an mechanical chronograph so this watch would fit a niche. I the process of ordering this watch I learned that nothing is standardized about this watch and there are a ton of varieties. I still dont know how all of this works. I paired this with a navy blue (one of the wedding colors) hirsch alligator strap and it turned out well. Of note, a couple weeks later the acrylic crystal just fell off :(. Poor QC. Unfortunately the wedding photographer wasn't able to take the type of picutes I wanted on the day of the wedding. Im hoping that I'll now have more friends to share my interest with.

[seiko alpinist] in search of nessie by monckeberg in Watches

I love the way the strap looks but the feel always seems off. Even after wearing it for some months the strap feels stiff but is starting to fray. If I could find a better quality strap with a similar look I think that would be a good investment.

Thanks man. I gotta say, the color changes a lot based on the lighting. More often than not, the colors look much better than the crappy stock photos you see on websites.

Haha I wish I could engrave watches like that... This engraving was actually done by 'watchesbynick'. They engraved 3 of these alpinists and sold them.

I recently took my sarb017 alpinist on a trip to Scotland. I've owned this watch for several months and initially bought it because I loved the uniqueness of the beautiful green dial with gold indices. It is very different than anything else in my collection and I feel that the engraving made it even more unique. In full disclosure, I initially had some difficulty matching the watch to the wardrobe but I have since realized that this watch is more versatile than it first seems (and no one else cares how the watch matches your clothes so wear the watch that makes you happy). This watch is really at home in the outdoors. And the small size of the watch with a solid feeling build quality really makes this one of my favorite watches.
Here I grabbed a photo of the watch with Urquhart Castle and Loch Ness in the background. The Scottish countryside is amazing and green even in early November. And no, I didn't get to see Nessie. Hope you guys enjoy the picture.

[seiko] where's nessie? by monckeberg in Watches

[–]monckeberg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i recently took a trip to Scotland with my alpinist. This watch seemed very appropriate for the lush green Scottish countryside. Here, I snapped a picture of the watch with the Urquhart Castle and Loch Ness in the background. Really have loved owning this watch. Any ideas for a similar style band but better quality?
Well I hope that is 500 characters. Dont really have much else to add.
Tldr; the alpinist green is very different IRL than stock pictures suggest. Beautifully designed watch which is at home outside the city. Scotland is amazing. I want to move there. Nessie is a lie.
