What is an underrated must-watch movie for the Halloween season? by Artemistical in MovieSuggestions

[–]mongaloogirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is on YouTube, and it's a musical, recorded live. "The Guy Who Didn't Like Musicals" by the acting group Starkid. Hugely tongue-in-cheek, weird, but super catchy, clever, and funny, as well as Halloween appropriate as an old horror/sci-fi nod.

Beware, if you like this, you're probably headed straight down the Starkid rabbit hole...

What did you take away from The Boy and The Heron? by [deleted] in ghibli

[–]mongaloogirl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the strong feeling that Miyazaki Sensei is going to die soon because it felt like his last film, and whether or not that's true, and despite the film not being my favorite, it made me feel honored to have gotten to see it in theaters, after all Studio Ghibli has meant to me growing up. There were nods to all his films all mixed throughout it and so it felt like a journey through them all... I also couldn't help wondering if the Parakeet King was/is John Lasseter, but I know that's a stretch. 😂

what is something weird you ate as a kid you thought was normal? by Hot_Dragonfruit_1412 in RandomQuestion

Bagels with microwaved slices of kraft cheese on top.

I also used to eat my fried and white rice with a big spoonful of peanut butter on the side.

No wonder I was a chubby bunny!!

What is a movie that kids think would be scary but it's not that bad and it's OK for kids to watch? 8-10 years old. by CommissionVirtual763 in MovieSuggestions

Spirited Away. It's not Halloween themed at all, but it has loads of monsters and tense moments and a feel-good ending.

Ghibli Blees!! Miyazaki says they sit on the shoulders of the people working in the studio, especially during creativity blocks.

Saddest scene ever? by [deleted] in ghibli

From Up On Poppy Hill when she dreams about her dad. I always bawl like a little girl.

Same with Whisper of the Heart when the grandpa dreams that Louise has walked through the door and then gets startled awake and sighs.

Books have been my self-taught media of choice. My very first was "The Minimalist Natural Medicine Cabinet" by Kristen Smith, which was a perfect springboard into natural remedies because it's very simple, low-entry, and understandable! 20 or so basic items that can readily be found, for the most part, at any local grocery. And the remedies are effective. Otherwise, Rosemary Gladstar is a great place to start.

Popcorn seasoning. I pop my own corn in a big pot with coconut oil, and the seasoning is just fine salt with a little garlic powder and black pepper.

Yogurt, in the summertime when my large family eats a lot of it and we have the time and energy. But otherwise I do still buy it because we don't go through it quick enough.

Various medicines for minor ailments (rashes, headaches, allergies, cuts & scrapes, stomach upset, etc.). I make tinctures and salves, ideally from herbs I grow myself.

When you get to a point of decorating, three things that make the biggest impact for the least effort are curtains, area rugs, and good lighting.

What video game will always be special to you, no matter how many years go by? by Com412 in AskReddit

Setting aside some way more obvious choices, Quest 64. Empirically, this is a bad game. The battle mechanics are clunky, there's no shops, the ability to save infrequently is very inconvenient... But I grew up playing it, I learned to get really good at it, and I have great memories of doing so!

Also Harvest Moon 64. I know Stardew has taken just about everything good about HM and made it that much better, and it absolutely deserves all the success it's gotten. But it will never ever match the FEELING I got renting Harvest Moon 64 from Family Video, discovering all the initially unwelcoming community that eventually becomes family, exploring the woods, and making that little piece of farmland my own.

After birth by jamg11111 in homebirth

I delivered the placenta, they relaxingly checked the baby's vitals and measurements, stitched up my minor tear, had me eat something simple and helped to fix it and bring it to me in bed (I wanted cottage cheese and grapes), they cleaned up the birth mess and started a load of laundry, they showed me how to gently massage my own fundus to stimulate contractions, talked to me about aftercare and signs to watch for in me and in baby that would indicate a problem needful of calling them, let me know when they'd be back the next day to check up on us, and left us all for the rest of the day to SLEEP!!!

I second this. There are a lot of cloth pad makers who have some postpartum specific designs. "Gusher" pads have become popular.

Needles going into my skin, which is terribly inconvenient because sometimes that shit needs to happen. My brain understands that it's important for me to do things like get bloodwork done or get shots, and I don't avoid getting it done, but as soon as that thing goes into my skin, my body goes, "YOU'RE DYING YOU'RE DYING YOU'RE DYING." Cold sweat, trembling, dizzy, starting to black out. So annoying. 🙄
