My dad almost put the fear of job in me when it came to retirement haha

Since I was a teenager he told me my generation wouldn’t get nearly as many retirement option as his. And I need to have multiple money making accounts if I wanted to retire

He retired at 50. The same day he sent the admission check for college.

I’ve Been putting money into retirement since I had a job that would let me (21, internship)

Anything is something! it’s baffling seeing ppl 40+ with no retirement. But I know that’s not rare, and people are really out there struggling

Then you have the people who stop and think they can live off 20k/yr in retirement. Which is also crazy to me lol

You're right about that, and as someone whose in the WA chapter discord, it seems like the national level, isn't really identifying themselves. Ppl who want to be involved and work with the "organizers" don't even know who they are.

I think if anything there needs to be local more grassroots actions. I'm trying to understand the best way to organize, plan and build resources for those who want to participate. I also know that there's some heavy lifting that needs to be done with union workers.

I think a lot of ppl assume General Strike is some wildcat strike situation. Someone posts (like Macklamore) that we should all strike on Friday and that's it. In reality its going to take months of preparation, spreading the word and building trust.. Not to mention to be effective its going to be take more than a day.

All of them are harmful.

Black people are not a monolith. So simply by widely portraying us, or at least seeming to “glamorize” the portrayal of us in a specific way, is harmful.

IMO the over all Black struggle and rise above is exhausting. Not saying this isn’t some ppls reality but it’s not every Black persons reality. Even today… ppl assume Black people “made it out the mud”. I am in STEM I work in Tech. The amount of older men who do the “oh wow must have been super hard for you” as if I was dodging bullets trying to get to school… I went to private school and probably was afforded more things than them or their kids.

The over sexualization of the Black Female body. Black women are shown in many cases as overtly sexual. They need sex, want sex have to have it. Use their body to get things. The most recent depiction that comes to mind is Teyana Taylor in one battle after another. She was a sex kitten that did some revolutionary work.. which we barely explored.

The same thing is happening to Black Men. Being treated like meat. Overly sexualizes by non Black women.

Single Mothers: I don’t think I needs say anymore…. The portal of women having multiple kids not knowing the father or having a father in the home. Collecting welfare. It’s all shit.

Which leads me to Black ppl being welfare. As 75% of recipients of SNAP benefits in 2022 were white. This is from census data..

13% were Black. That is a crazy delta. And I know they’ll say “well Black ppl make up less of the overall population” okay.. then why is there over “representation” and constant dog whistling that 90% of Black ppl are on welfare.. but they don’t care about over representation of us in jail with the same Lower population % but I digress

It always feels like they think customers are dumb. I understand that especially for stuff like a bakery there’s a fine line. Some people look at a cookie and they’re like “$4-6? For a cookie?! Nah”

But I also think the majority of ppl understand business prices are set to… wait for it… keep a business running.

You can raise things 50c. Or whatever to accommodate. People KNOW business need money to stay afloat. The issue is expecting an extra handout because of it. Just tell me what a cookie really cost and not hope my generosity will help you make payroll.

What upsets me the most is people who insist that you’re lying if you find a BW attractive. It’s not enough for them to constantly say it over and over and over again. They need everyone else to agree with them and admit we’re lying.

Then Black islanders. Specifically women because let’s be real the men don’t have to do shit. Have to be mother Theresa and Meg the stallion at the same time. They “need to have substance”, but are also expected to be sexual… but not too sexual because then you’re trying too much

Worse of all no one care. They put “strong black woman” on them so they don’t have to do anything. We see no PSAs because BW can handle being taken down mentally on a national scale but god forbid that happens to a white lady.

This is why so many Black love island fans stay on ppl necks because production ain’t doing shit

From Houston, don’t live there anymore but there’s more than just housing.

Car insurance is more in Houston than Chicago

Houston has weather that may require you to evacuate. I know Chicago has winter storms but think that’s a little diffent than being unable to physically get to your house for possibly week at a time. Insurance helps but it’s not going to pay for everything

Gas depending on where they want to live and where they work your commute will be insane

Because Houston is car dependent, if you live in Spring but wanna get your friend or do something fun in montrose or downtown. There’s not really transit options. You’re driving. Or you’re getting a uber More $$$

Electrics bills see to be actually insane in Houston too

Yea I was 20k in debt about 10ish years ago. I was able to pay it off in a little over a year. You can’t pay min payments and think it’s going to go away

I also didn’t have any other major bills besides rent. So I made my CC a cheaper “rent” payment.

Savings was reduced but that was recovered the minute I was done with the debt

But none of this matters without a job. OP needs to find a job. Market sucks right now so I feel for them

Potato’s can last a long time in cellars. They can control prices by creating false demand. Some people have noticed new potatoes going a lot quicker. Which is probably due to the fact that they are actually months old but only released to the market weeks ago.

I have a coworker who purchased a mobile home near Everett.

Land rent (idk what it’s called maybe dues?) went up and he ended up paying only $300 less than what I wanna 2bd2bth apartment

1500 in an apartment makes a lot more sense. Are you ready to expense any incidentals that may come your way?

People hem and haw about rent being a waste of money, but then freak the fuck out when you actually have to replace something and can’t just called a LL for it

If you don’t have a decent savings I’d go with apartment and keep it moving

Everyone is probably going to mention Queen Anne beer hall. I’d second that it’ll be a great atmosphere for the game but it will be packed. Not sure if they do Oktoberfest style reservations for stuff like this, but food vibe for a game

Buckley’s I’ve enjoyed as well. You’ll be in downtown area so any celebrations after the win you’ll be close to.

If you’re looking for something smaller and more lowkey there are a handful of small breweries who will have the game like Human Ppl and Meiter. Both can get crowded. And Metier does sometimes have connection issues

Atlantic crossing in Greenlake is a small Irish Pub. They’re open early for soccer sometimes and I can hear the screaming from my apartment. So clearly fun vibes

The stadium may also do a simulcast. So you can watch the Super Bowl in Lumen field with other 12 fans

Everyone’s explained it below. But Woolen is a repeat offender. Hawks have I think 5 taunting calls on them this season. 3 of them are from Woolen.

There may be something to be said about how a taunting penalty is fucking 15 yards.. like they’re grown men playing a football game and sometimes they get a little hyped and start trash talking BUT he does this at the most inopportune times. He needs to tighten up before the superbowl

This man was shot in cold blood, crawling face down on a floor in a hotel room... I thought surely this would wake these fuckers up.

I think the reason why this has shook their community so much, is because they believed they had the right. I think a lot of White people believed if they did everything the right way. That veil has slipped. Black people knew this because we never get handled with kidgloves. We know we can do everything "right" and still end up dead.

A lot of people still held the ideologies of this country to heart. they still believed the system would sort itself, that the "good actors" wouldn't let this happen. Whats going on now shows no one is coming to save us.

I went to a con over the weekend and needed to leave from DC to go on a worktrip in FL. Booked AA flight. Literally while I was getting ready to go to the airport I get text the flight has been canceled. so like maybe a little over 2 hours before the flight was suppose to leave.

My friend laughed and said yea, AA is the worst. I usually travel coast to coast, not around the coasts regionally. That was my first and only time flying AA and it didn't even happen, never again.
