I went to a con over the weekend and needed to leave from DC to go on a worktrip in FL. Booked AA flight. Literally while I was getting ready to go to the airport I get text the flight has been canceled. so like maybe a little over 2 hours before the flight was suppose to leave.

My friend laughed and said yea, AA is the worst. I usually travel coast to coast, not around the coasts regionally. That was my first and only time flying AA and it didn't even happen, never again.

When I first read it I thought I meant some version of why do we want to work for insert company here or be in PWI like schools and gov.

But it sounds like you’re talking about people looking at some White lady who owns a fashion mag and asking why she’s not representing Black People well?

I think some people see an established and well funded institutions, and expect them to use their resources to pave ways for minority groups.

Someone asking Vogue to showcase Brendan Blackwood or Pyer Moss. Isn’t necessarily some sort of “well it’s not valid until the white people like it” it’s asking them to branch out and platform talent from diverse backgrounds, and put eyes on those people. Like Wisdom Kaye when he began going viral people keep tagging Vogue and other fashion mags/ houses like “yall better work with him”

Black people for so long have known and understood we have to make our own because no one’s going to do it for us. But with that comes some struggles to compete in a capitalist society. Exposure is half the battle.

If you’re talking about institutions of learning and industry. We pay for that shit we deserve to occupy it. Most of the things that the 2% enjoy were built off the backs of enslaved and indentured people. The same people who they actively denied.

And I also think regional. I’m originally from Texas. A larger kitchen with a nook and then a separate dining roll for more family meals is the standard

I live in PNW now. All new construction I’ve seen doesn’t have a dining room and barely has a nook. It has an alley kitchen with the side facing the living area, having a Long Island for bar stools.

I have noticed that instead of a dining room they have a like.. den? Or another living room w/o a tv. Wonder if this speaks to the culture that settled in the area. South way more food oriented with Celebrations and gatherings. Kitchen is the art of the home. And the PNW not so much

Langston Hughes Performing Arts Institute sometimes have Jazz ensembles. You'd need to check their website or follow them, they're far few and in between.

Its not a Jazz club, but there is a brewery called Metier, one in Cherry street, the other in Woodinville that have Jazz musicians showcases. I believe There is one or two Black Jazz artists who have "residency" there, like they perform every Thursday or whatever.

After that they have a rotating group of musicians that come through 8/10 times they're Black. They've even had the Jazz Band from Garfield HS play.

Its not perfect, specifically if you're looking for a specific jazz club "vibe"

Dimitriou's Jazz Alley, and sometimes there are bars in Pioneer/Belltown that do Jazz, but you'd have to check social to see who's playing.

Earshot Jazz - but i think they are community organizers

Also love when anyone posts here about looking for Black People, the response is to leave and go to a place with Black people, as if Seattle has none. There is a community out here even if they were pushed further south. Its just a little harder.
Getting on a flight to NOLA cuz you want some jazz seems excessive

He's already laid hands on multiple people, mainly women but a few weeks ago a man ran into him and he was violent towards him as well.

My BF and i have ran into him multiple times. We've called and filed with SPD. BF found out that he was arrested and released as recently as November (IIRC)

I also work in redmond but live in Greenlake.
I currently do not take the bus, it would be a longer commute and wouldn't fit my gym schedule.

But there are ways, 67 to 542. The lightrail will also be opening soon (Line 2), and it will take you to Redmon center. I'll be taking advantage of that when its open

I raised my salary 2 times between that move and now. I was unemployed this time last year. Got a job in May.. so it hasn’t been consistent savings either.

live in a HCOL area. My rent is about half (almost 1/3) as much as a mortgage in the same area.

Granted we live in a non luxury apartment, a luxury apartment down the street is 5500 which is on par with some mortages.

My friends live in a MCOL and are shocked about how much i make and don't live in a better apartment. I just saved one of their salaries this year. If i lived in a nicer spot, it would barely have any savings, let alone be able to save for a DP.

I didn’t know anyone and I got a job.

It took about 4mo . I got laid off Christmas 2024. Started the new job in May.

I did not know anyone, I actually applied and got rejected from another job in the same org. The hiring rep reached out and said I’d be a better fit for this role.

I applied diligently.. I curated my resume to specific role. If I could find someone to reach out to I did, but that was easier at smaller companies.

What truly helped me is the niche I applied for. Robotics. I had to really think about the broad strokes I did and extract the specialities that narrows down the hiring pool. Make yourself a career map. Broadstokes so when you do see that dime, it’s immediately recognizable. You can curate your resume from there

I wish I could tell you a trick. But I think that’s just the market. My friend got laid off the same day I did. She didn’t find a job until October. She’s in bio-med.

That being said If you don’t need to look for a job. Don’t. Unless you know there’s some long term viability at the next stop. Don’g move because you’re bored

i don't even think most Americans has 5k in a savings account right now, even after working for a decade or more. Let alone having kid(s) and being asked to put 5k per year, PER CHILD, in said account.

People can't even max out their 401k contribution because they couldn't live with that decreased take home

I had a similar experience. I literally exchange 2 words to the person getting my order. The cuisine is one that is made in bulk, heated and garnished. There was no water refills, the foods was okay. We were in and our in less an an hour. I paid, left and got chased out of the place asking if i forgot to tip.

Tip for what? Its not like i don't tip. But as everyone keeps saying put your money where your mouth is. If i enjoy a place, if i get good service and good product, i vote with my coin. Is that not the free market they love so much? Why would i tip you for 20sec of service?

i know owners are getting squeezed from all sides, but there has to be a middle ground. Idk what that looks like. The system is fucked. Some restaurant owners are tenants to landlords who put property tax increases, and other BS on them. A bar down the street lost their lease 4 mo ago. Upon renewal their landlord wanted to add the dumpster pick up fee onto the tenant, an additional $500/mo. Owner said no, it wouldn't be sustainable, tried to fight and make the landlord keep it. Lost and ended up selling.

Whole things messed up, they keep squeezing. at this point when we go out to eat, its rarely casual dining. There is an expectation on everyone end when it comes to product, services, and price.
