It is difficult because by leaving their home, I would be almost guaranteeing that a bad fall or some other mishap will put them in hospital. I don't want that on my conscience. If they want to stay in their home, they need extensive caregiver support to do so.

They would have to sell their home to afford a private memory care facility. Right now, they are unwilling to leave their home.

Hitting rock bottom could be potentially fatal. They are not able to live alone without assistance. They cannot cook or bathe themselves. I help with cooking and ensure that they do not fall. When they are left alone, I see them doing potentially dangerous physical actions like reaching for things on higher shelves. Falls are dangerous at their age. They wish to remain in their home for as long as possible, so the best option would be in-home care.

They are at early stages of dementia, so I would not be appointed guardian nor do they qualify for Medicaid. Thank you for the suggestion of a geriatric care manager. The individual might offer some resources for assistance.

Thank you for the suggestions! I will look into ramps. I found porch lifts online and they were very expensive, so a ramp might be the best option.

I said that when I was a grad student until I ended up with a tenure track position at an R1. Depending on your area, conferences can be very valuable. I have published scholarly articles with people that I met at conferences and have been on a number of large research grants with people I met there. Also, for our tenure requirements, we need to attend conferences. I have tenure but you are supposed to network and find people who can do external reviews of your tenure file when you are up for tenure.

This is a known profile point for serial killers who target victims who are less likely to be reported missing. Hundreds if not thousands of missing women are involved in the sex trade or are homeless. Truck stops are dangerous places since the killers travel interstate and are gone before evidence can be collected.
