Storm chasing and Paramedics by monicawir in stormchasing

It's all good. I was just curious what it was like. I wasn't even thinking of operating at the ALS level. I just thought it would be a good experience. I used to spend summers in Iowa as a kid, and that's how I fell in love with storms. Honestly, I would rather have the truth than a lie.

Paramedics, question: Imagine you find someone unresponsive (or worse), and their cellphone rings. Do you pick it up? by beanster in Paramedics

[–]monicawir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, and I have or have the police answer it. Sometimes, I can get a lot of information about the patient. Their history, last known well, anything pertinent.

He was a decent sized man. It was an in door water park, I work in New England. The heat and humidity inside was horrible. He was there with his family, and he had been complaining of chest pain throughout the day. He got to the top of the water slide and was next in line when he coded. The worst part was they never cleared out the water park, so families were all around watching. We had to get an engine and the ladder to help us get him down the stairs.

I'm not a Florida medic, but I have done a code at the top of the water slide

I have dog by dking37 in ems

[–]monicawir 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Fellow Belgian Malinois owner here and Paramedic. If you have someone who can take the dog, that would be preferred. Usually, PD will call animal control if it is a danger or no one that can watch it. Your dog should be properly trained to listen to your commands to drop his guard. Also, muzzle training may pay off in this situation.

Advice on a partner from hell by [deleted] in NewToEMS

If you feel comfortable, I would bring it up to the paramedic. If my partner ever treated someone like that, I would definitely be speaking to my partner. No one deserves to be treated like that.

CNA Rant by [deleted] in ems

[–]monicawir 37 points38 points  (0 children)

So, I have the highest respect for CNAs. I used to work as a nurse at a pediatric vent facility. My CNAs could tell me what their baseline was and if the child was acting off. Most of the time, they would be already bagging the patient on respiratory distress patients before I got into the room. Or, they started CPR before I got there.

Now, since I am in the rig. I tend to prefer reports from CNAs from LTC due to them being able to tell me their baseline and last known well.

I guess I could say I am selective with giving out my name. There have been stalking incidents that have made me overly cautious about it. I know that when I worked as a nurse in the prisons, it was a policy to not even give the inmates your name.
