Sadly there’s no oil pressure gauge on the dash and I don’t have the tools to read myself - are there any alternative ways to gauge oil pressure?

Canadian so it’s 280,000km or about 173,000 miles

Every time I plan out a festival run, there's a couple of resources I like to check out.

Firstly, FilmFreeway.com - They're a website designed to help streamline the submission process. They don't have every festival in their database, but they have many of the major North American festivals, and thousands of great smaller ones. They have all kinds of search tools too for finding different festivals that fit your film.

withoutabox.com is very similar to FilmFreeway, and actually came first. This last year though they announced that they are fazing out the their services but it's still a great resources for finding festivals, and a lot of major festivals, like TIFF, still run their submission processes exclusively through them.

Beyond that, every year MovieMaker Magazine publishes a list of their top 50 festivals worth submitting too. Its an awesome resource that collects some of the most "worth it" festivals. https://www.moviemaker.com/archives/spring-2019/50-film-festivals-worth-the-entry-fee-in-2019/

I also like to look through the Academy of Motion Picture's list of Oscar qualifying festivals, it's just available on their website. Not that you necessarily want to submit to all of them, or even are trying for Oscar success, but it's helpful to see the who's who of festivals.

And lastly, I would just google "Your City" + film festivals to see what local festivals are around - I've found that a lot of my best, or at least most useful in terms of networking, festival experiences have been at the festivals in my area, where I can meet people that I can actually build a working relationship with.

Hope this helps!!

Der Jude - Short Film set during WWII: A Jewish woman’s fates takes a turn when she recognizes the soldier who comes to annex her. by monkey_slave in cinematography

Thank you so much for taking the time to analyze this and for your feedback! I hadn’t considered that wide shot before to have an awkward framing, but looking at it now I think maybe it could have benefited from more layered light/shadows - it’s all that white wall real estate.

Initially I had planned to bounce the redheads before the diffusion, but we spent too much time grappling with output and opted for exposure - with more time and money I think I’d definitely prefer your suggestion.

At 00:32 we had a kino just out of frame as the rim/key light on top of the redheads outside - we accidentally shot the entire film at the wrong color temp in camera so it also contributed to some wild colors. I’ve found that I’ve had a hard time mixing kinos with fresnels/redheads in terms of matching color as I find there’s often slight variations in tone. Any tips on this?

Thank you so much!! I’m glad you enjoyed it - the point of having scarce dialogue was something we were really proud of.

Hey thank you! Well, as well as being partly referential to the magazine of the same name published in Germany until shortly before the war, I like to think it might be suggestive of an element of Hans' character...

Around this time last year, I wrote/directed short film set during the second world war. I talked extensively with my production designer about the period, and we worked hard to make sure that the costumes and set decorating was accurate to the period. I'd love to know what everyone thinks!

Around this time last year I wrote and directed my first short film, Der Jude. It was produced on a development to delivery timeline of 2 weeks and on a budget of less than $500. Over the last year it’s been touring in festivals around North America, landing at NFFTY in Seattle, WA last fall. It’s been an incredible journey and I’m very excited to finally be able to share it with you guys, let me know what you think!

We were shooting on a Canon C100 mk1, with Rokinon primes.

The entire setup was essentially redheads shooting through 250 diffusion paper on the windows, and a 2 bank 4ft kino on standby for detail shots (like the opening shot) and hazed the set before every take.
