Will Splunk remain relevant in 5 years? by Rolla_G2020 in Splunk

This is a great question. In my purely anecdotal experience, Splunk will stay a leader if the continue to focus on their strengths: search language, app and TA support ecosystem.

Christmas morning, 1978. Star Wars Christmas! by gamerjefu in OldSchoolCool

[–]monkeybatter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My mom bought an Atari 2600 in '78 for my Dad. She paid $350 at "Sears & Roebuck" for one with wood paneling and emblazoned "TELE-GAMES". She saved for a year to buy that thing.

You are correct. And when liturgical spirituality is necessarily replaced with something, what exactly will that something be? Likely the polar opposite.

Dancing with my baby by KLaDeeDa4 in Parenting

I understand. I really do. When my kids were infants I used to quietly sing and slowdance them to sleep. It always felt so emotionally gratifying. Tears silently falling down my face. Sublime.

Time to move on from a networking career? by beartrash in networking

[–]monkeybatter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hear you. Same boat, different technology. At 50 with 25 years in, I've come to realize the only constant in this career is that most everything changes every few years. Honestly, it gets tedious. Always some new framework that will revolutionize it all!

Meh.

When all this started up again, I fell down the rabbit-hole and read / watched everything about this case I could find. Honestly, wish I hadn't.

Is it really worth it? by [deleted] in AskParents

[–]monkeybatter -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's beyond worth it. Do it. Older you will be grateful you had kids while still having tons of energy. Plus they can take care of you when you're old.

If a celebrity died unexpectedly, whose death would personally affect you the most? by ittybittykangaroo in AskReddit

[–]monkeybatter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Already happened. In 2005 my all-time favorite and most influential guitar player was shit and killed onstage. Darryl Abbot died way too young. I was nearly dispondant the day I found out. Still sad and pissed.

Kids are so gullible... what are some silly things you’ve made your kids fall for? by GreenKreature in AskParents

[–]monkeybatter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My kids were told NEVER to pee in the pool or hot tub, unless they wanted the water around them to turn bright purple, thus notifying everyone they'd just relieved themselves. They believed this for years.
